Macintosh systems in movies

I guess this is a community thing since it is not really tech, but...

Why are the vast majority of computers in the movies and televisison Macintosh systems?

I was thinking it could be because of their logo. Not many other computer companies have highly distinguishable icons like the Macintosh Apple, so maybe they are the only ones that find it benefitial to advertise in this manner.

I guess so. I mean you see a biege brick.. you think PC or windows(comman one ). You see an apple and you know it's one. I guess they must have some advertising contract cause they are in alot of movies. Or maybe filmmakers like them becuase they are alittle more pretty than your standard pc.

I'm gonna guess that it's a combination of "product placement", or sly advertisements paid for by the product manufacturer, as well as the design qualities of various Macs that just make them 'look better' in the shot.

Take a look at the Sunday funnies. You'll almost always see an iMac where the presence of a computer is called for, just because of the distinctive shape, which is real easy to draw. One correct curve and there's no mistaking it for anything other than an iMac.

They look nice, plus when the hero starts doing funky stuff and cracking passwords and stuff you don't get the BSOD's. Saves money of either CG the BSOD out or redoing the shot

Considering that most CGI graphics and special effects are rendered on Macs, I'd say it's a free product plug.

Apples don't BSOD but they do have a problem with LBSPU (Little Bomb Symbol Popping Up)

How do you think they pay for some of these movies? Ever notice back in the day, that all the cars in a movie were made by one company ( well, the ones involved in the scene anyway )

Product placement. Used to be that you would see generic stuff like pop cans, but now you see people sucking on a Dew, etc. Kinda nice because it makes the scene a little more realistic.

I'd love to see an Alienware computer stuffed in a scene of the next Matrix movie though

Apple has exclusive marketing rights secured with many film studios for movie shots involving computers. Been this way since the 80s.

None in the x86 PC industry ever seemed to care about brand marketing through movies, atleast until lately.
