Deramaxx - "miracle" drug for dogs.

I was resigned to the fact that I was going to have to put my 12 yr. old Samoyed down. She couldn't stand and was screaming in pain when I tried to get her to move. She was peeing all over herself as she could not stand up to eliminate.

The vet could find nothing wrong with her. X-rays, bloodwork, etc. He suggested that we try Deramaxx for a week to see if it would help.

She's a new dog - running, jumping, playing, and acts like a puppy. If your dog's in pain check with your vet. I was and am amazed at the results.

That sounds wonderful, Bill! I can't stand to see an animal suffer.. especially a beloved pet - it must've been tearing you up inside.

I would wonder, though, what is causing this pain in the first place and thereby what is the Deramaxx covering up. Perhaps an opinion from another vet? Seems strange to be in such pain with knowing what is causing it.. ;/

I'm glad to see this. It's sad when it's just too painful for a dog to move. Perhaps this will indeed help. My Lab is 10 and I've been dreading the next couple of years. About 11 years ago I used to have an English Setter that was 12 years old and he had arthritis.

deramaxx is a cox 2 inhibitor. which is an anti-inflammatory. its the same thing as celebrex, viox, and bextra. (except its a different molecule approved for animal consumption only). If her pain was due to inflammation, then that would definately help. Did the vet mention anything about glucosamine and chondroitin?

Read the following warning !!!!!!!

The above, from the mfgr, tells a VERY different story indeed !!!

X-rays did not show any sign of arthritis even when examined by an orthopedic vet. No exam revealed any reason for her pain and if it weren't for me knowing how to induce it they probably would have thought I was nuts. Seems to be in her front left shoulder joint area.

Her dose by the vet is 50 mg once a day - half tab. However, I adjusted it down to 25 mg a day for 4 - 6 day and then one day at 50 mg depending on my observations of her pain after consultation with the vet. This stuff isn't cheap.

Regardless of the risks and reactions observed in clinical trials she would be dead without it. Such is the dilemma with the situation.

It's no different than if we had severe pains and went to the Dr for medicine of some sort or just taking Mortin because we have swelling and pain.
