Read the Scenario, and Vote!
OK, this happened to me the other day.
I went to the Cinema to see Bruce Almighty. With 20 minutes to go, the fire bell went off, and we all filed out. (Electrical issues).
As a result, no end to the film. No showings later that night either.
As you would expect, we got a free entry to any film there within the next 3 months. At their discression, they also gave a refund.
Now, I have made the effort to go to the cinema, and paid to see the film. The last time I did this was for Minority Report (and that was a date anyway!). Normally, I would use a P2P app.
As I made the effort, is it still morally wrong to download the film to see the end?

| Well I'm going to play nice and say no you didn't pay as they gave you a refund and in addition to that they gave you a free screening. However morality/ethics is based upon a person's up bringing and background and personally I'd say its wrong. For you you can do what you please but I'd say since the movie isn't even out on DVD yest and still in theaters {at least where I'm at its in some} that would be totally wrong. It would still be wrong in my eyes no matter what but thats me.
Edit: bad fingers leaving typos | |

lol..."made the effort"...
Depends on your own morals. If you need the "made the effort" crap to please your moral wellbeing to download it, whatever.
For me, it's whatever I'd feel like doing. Not a big fan of downloading movies because I don't like watching movies on a 19" screen. In fact, I've never dl-ed a movie.

The fact that you got a full refund makes you legally whole.
Since they gave you a pass to see another movie that is gravy. They have no furthter duty to you.
Breaking the law and downloading the film is a separate issue.

Don't try to find Bruce Almighty in Kazaa anyway. I've tried at least 30 times now and I can never get it. So far the ones on Kazaa named Bruce Almighty are most likely
1. Hart's War
2. The Matrix
3. Star Wars 1
I think you'll have to wait till it's on DVD before it can be found on Kazaa. Matrix Reloaded there isn't on there either so don't look for that as a substitute
*edit
If you download the movie on Kazaa and actually like it, please buy the thing so they can keep making great movies

If you wish call the MPAA and ask them
Make sure to give them name & phone # too
What.. not gonna make the call?
You took the effort to go to a movie right?

Since when did watching a P2P download compare with seeing a movie in the theater?
I don't know, maybe Bruce Almightly is so bad there's no difference.

P2P is way better because I can stop it to go use the can, get more pop, food, beer, whatever. I don't have some fat idiot infront of me who laughs so loud I can't hear the next words said by the characters. I can watch it on while laying on my couch as opposed to sitting in a theatre seat which gives me a numb butt.
The above advantages are the whole reason of buying DVDs as well.
Theatres are really not that great.

It is "morally" wrong indeed. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. Personally, I probably would do it (if it were a better movie. That one is not even worth the d/l time.)
And theatres do certainly suck nowadays. Screens are getting so small it's pathetic. Only thing that's improving with theatres is the seats are getting better.
But even aside from that, ALL movies suck do to one common reason; 24 fps!!! I can't stand it! Yes I know the actual film is played back at double that speed, but that doesn't change the fact that the motion is still 24 fps. Anything that even slightly moves in the picture cannot be focused on by our eyes, because it's not in focus on the damn screen. MOTION BLUR SUCKS!!! It drives me insane to watch a movie, and on a theater screen just makes it that much worse.
The entire industry needs to revamp their technology. And Lords knows they have the friggin' money to do it. But they don't. Grrrrr.

That annoys me too OuT, that's why I always try to sit way at the back, because if I sit in the front half my eyes will hurt.
However to answer the question in this thread:
Man, who cares if it's right or wrong? If you don't get caught then you don't get caught. That's how life works, sorry but I'm getting fed up with this subject, so this is my resultant opinion after having to hear about it everyday on the forum and from friends. |
