Picture Framing

I have a print 22x50 its an odd size and I want it framed I went to a local shop they wanted over $100 to frame. I saw some kits on-line but they didnt seem large enough. Can I piece together some kits or something? I really dont want to spend $150 to frame a $30 print .

Thanks

If you have a reasonably steady hand and access to a miter box, you can get moldings of various shapes at building supply store. and make your own. the trickyest part is sawing the exact 90 degree corners. some glue and a variety of fasteners are also available. have you [priced the glass????

Thanks alondra,

The estimate from a local shop I got was $170 that included the glass. I have not priced a piece of glass only. I always thought plexi glass was cheaper than real glass but I was wrong. The think that gets me is a bought the print at a museum and I could have bought it framed for a good price, but now I cant find the print anywhere so I have to get it framed myself.

I think the cost may include more then JUST the frame---the matting has to be precisely hand cut---the print needs to have a backing attached to it or it could ripple within the glass from humidity changes etc---the glass could be a non reflective piece preventing glare adding cost, a plain piece of glass that size could cost less then 10$---plus the frame being semi custom in size---I have 4 Robt Lynn Nelson prints I paid less then 40$ each for (2x3') but paid about 500$ having them properly mounted and (cheaply) framed...

I have 2 pictures that I framed going the 100 bucks apiece method. I paid a dollar for ea pic at a rummage sale.

The pictures look like a million bucks! I love them and have had them for years.

If you like that picture now you will go nuts when you see it professionally framed. Put a jar on a table next to it and when you walk by dig in your pocket and give it a tip in a few months you'll have the money
