"The RIAA has issued at least 911 subpoenas so far, according to court records. Lawyers have said they expect to file at least several hundred lawsuits within eight weeks, and copyright laws allow for damages of $750 to $150,000 for each song."

It's a scam, they know they'll make more money off of suing people per-song than they would selling CD's anyway so they just waited till the time was ripe to strike.

Greedy Money Grubbers.....

Holy sh*t!! I freaked out when I saw that article - that's my last name!! No relation, though. FYI, my name is not on the list.

Are you serious TBC?

Ok, next question: how do I get mp3s via other means? Email me if you want, as I don't know the legality anymore of posting stuff like that here.

That doesn't look like a very big list. Apparently AP said the RIAA planned to sue someone that had about 7 songs. (All of them on the DON'T SHARE list )

Random question about this copyright thing. If you JUST DOWNLOAD, not share files, doesn't the RIAA have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you never ever bought the cd from either a store OR the band (I.E. before they were signed if you got a copy of a song directly from a band and they later signed their contract, or at a show)? I mean hell I've lost about 20 or so cds in my life atleast, or they get scratched or borrowed by ex-girlfriends who I never talk to anymore... you get the idea.

You have to prove that you had the CD. If your girlfriend ran off with some CD's and you don't have a receipt, you're screwed.

So its guilty until proven inocent??? hmmm... I dunno about you people but I'm feeling a bit of emotional damage coming on

Seriously though this can't go on for long. Its just stupid. I mean if people don't use Kazaa they'll use IRC and the RIAA has lost. I personally can't wait for Apple to release there music service for the PC. Well as long as its not apples AWI or whatever format that is. I heard its not so great.
