Polling Postwar Baghdad

Some interesting results.

(I don't have any point to make here; just passing it along.)

"The top two by a mile were ‘to secure oil supplies’ (47 per cent) and ‘to help Israel’ (41 per cent). Just 23 per cent said our aim was ‘to liberate the people of Iraq’, while 7 per cent said ‘to protect Kuwait’. The formal reason for going to war, ‘to find and destroy weapons of mass destruction’, came last. Just 6 per cent think that this was America’s and Britain’s main motive. "
Oil -------47
Israel ---41
Liberate 23
Kuwait --7
WMD-----6

124%

The article is interesting. But the above confused me. do you know what they are trying to say.

I think so.

Tells ya one thing considering this was an invasion me thinks that this poll is not exactly all that bad.

My guess it that if there was going to be an error it would be a tendency to lean to the anti american side. I would guess that if you speak ill of the US it is safer than if you speak positive. so the data might be slanted a bit more in favor of the US if the people spoke their mind. Just a guess though no data to support it. Another poll which would be interesting is a weighted poll indicating nation wide sentiments. I mean after all baghdad is not the end all and be all of the iraqi experience.

Baghdad also is getting the shaft on electricity post war. According to info I heard yesterday Saddam and cronies used to supliment Baghdads power requirements by cutting available power to surrounding regions. So baghdad had nearly 24 hours coverage prior to the war and after with fair allotments they are down below 18 hours average available power. although fair I am sure it is a rude awakening for them.

Apparently the power grid has not been upgraded since the 60's and only provides on the order of 66% of required power even with 100% functional equipment.
