Tom Pabst of THG afraid to come to the US?

I just picked this up from a generally reliable source, though it will not be appearing on the front-page news until verified.

"I have heard a rumor that Tom Pabst of THG is afraid to come to the US because he is being sued for contract violation and fraud in the US. The case is being held (or to be held) in the Silicon Valley (Santa Clara)."

For those not in the know, THG is Tom's Hardware, one of the first popular Internet hardware review sites. It started about the same time as Scott's first online tech site.

This could be interesting, though not entirely shocking....

Well, Dr Pabst is contraversial. But it would surprise me if the sole reason he won't go to the US is because he may be sued.

He has been slandered and threatened more than a few times in the past, by the likes of Intel and other large multinationals, but has held firm to his principles.

I suppose it depends on the nature of the allegations.

I'll be interetsed in your conclusions, RR.

Cheers
Mick

I am still awaiting some type of confirmation, but the source seemed to think the lawsuit may be something quite serious. Honestly, I rarely agree with Tom or his policies, as I remember his questionable tatics and attitudes towards many people from way back in the day.

This is common in the media business. Been there, done that myself. I have a long list of tech companies that have contacted me with not so nice messages in the past, though only one lawsuit has ever been threatened. And before anyone asks, I can not disclose the details.

My personal thoughts are that THG's staff spins reviews in favor of their pet constituents (Intel is highly implied). Some articles reek of tabloid sensationalism (The fried AMD CPU affair after the improbable dislodgement of the HSF). And some of the pictures are out and out demeaning. "A New Kind of Fast' showing an AMD Athlon XP T-bred with a snail slithering across it's surface.
I don't visit his web page much anymore. And maybe it's his obvious bias is the reason he is being sued..se la vie
