Wiccan Witch Seeks Right to Open Board Meeting with Prayer

County Attorney Steven L. Micas told U.S. Magistrate Dennis W. Dohnal that the board is within its rights in requiring invocations to reflect "a monotheistic faith consistent with Judeo-Christian tradition." If stripped of all control, he suggested, the board would have to allow invocations by the white supremacist World Church of the Creator and other fringe groups.

Uh-huh.

Simpson's attorney, Rebecca Glenberg of the American Civil Liberties Union, argued that her client's exclusion from the list amounted to a disparagement of her religion.

"The policy on its face demonstrates a use of the prayer program that advances certain faiths and disparages others," she said. "... The core fact is Ms. Simpson was denied the opportunity to participate in this forum because of her religion."

I sure wish people would distinguish between reality and fantasy in their arguments...look at the intellectual desperation in this statement:

It's amazing how far a little bit of ignorance can go nowadays.

I say just ban all prayer regardless of the organization, and have a period of silent prayer/reflection if you really want something. It will make it easier on everyone and we won't have to listen to the "but you are discrimiating against my religion" garbage, or "we can't allow this because we don't want this kind of person telling us about how evil everything else is". People's faith needs to come from themselves anyway, not spoon-fed from an outside source. Okay this is just my opinion. I'm sure something like this may have already been tried and failed anyway.

is sound reasoning and does not equate wicca with nazi hate groups, it simply meant that any groups would have the legal right to participate and be heard -including Hindu, Muslem, Buddhist, Native American, etc. etc. etc. and it seems to imply that this would include offensive-controversial groups that are on the fringe of political correctness....
