Should the "jail cam" be allowed?

Is it an invasion of privacy? Will it help deter crime? Should a wife see their husband arrested for prostitution or drugs ???
Its live and unedited---

***This is a real life transmission of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Madison Street Jail, Arizona. Instances of violence or sexually inappropriate behavior by detainees during the booking process may occur. Viewer discretion is advised.***

http://www.crime.com/info/jailcam_redirect.html
Link isnt working now for some reason (it did last night)---when it does 4 different cam views are available...

***Seems to be working now---I called them, they said they were having a technical prob. Now---would you wanna see your neighbor/brother show up on that???***

Just saw this on TechTV. I love this channel. I think that it public record if your arrested unless the court seals the records. So carry on.

Last I heard, the police department was a public service institution.

It is not an invasion of privacy, it's a matter of public record, in my area they even print the police blotter in the paper. Makes all those drunk drivers sit up and take notice.

The only place where privacy rules is in your own home.

If a prison is funded by taxes, why shouldn't the public be able to see what goes on inside? And how is it an invasion of privacy? They aren't putting cameras in a prisoner's home, they are putting them in a publicly funded building in which the prisoners choose (by way of their actions) to go into IMO.

Other.
It makes great 'wildest police' videos. I have seen the inside of a crossbar hotel or three(or more) and I have seen some of the footage from those visits. It is funny with an emphasis on fun.NOT! They never tell you that you're on camera untill you meet at least one of several criteria. Some of these are: Make a threat against one or more cops and\or their families. Make statements attesting to your guilt before they read you your rights. Do something funny or stupid and end up on Fox.

I think they should be in the cells also.....once you are convicted ...You have given up most of your rights.......Plus we are paying for it anyway...

IMO

As far as I know anyone can go and attend a court session (as long as the judge doesn't object). So whether I go there personally or view it through the web, its all the same.

Basing this on what I learnt so far in Law school.
