PWC question

This is a question directed to those of you that are into Jet-skis and the modifications thereof...

I am thinking about buying an early-model jet ski for use on vacation and on the merrimack river which runs through my city (Lowell, MA). However, there is one problem which I have noticed with early-model PWCS's (early 90's) - They are horrendously noisy.

My question is: are there any types of aftermarket muffler systems for early model PWC's that drop down the noise levels to something more acceptable? It seems like all aftermarket systems are geared for performance first, noise 2nd.

I want to bring up the ski to my summer vacation rental cabin on a quiet lake in NH, but I don't want to ruin other people's vacation with the incessent whining of a marine 2-stroke. I was thinking that if I line the engine compartment thoroughly with a double layer of that noise-killing foam (durafoam or something) and put on an enhanced muffler system, it will reduce the noise level exponentially.

Let me know if there are any thoughts on how to do this or where to go for the parts. Thanks!

i used to have a pwc that i did a lot of performance upgrades and as far as i know i dont think there is any thing to quiet them down .a factory muffler is as quiet as you will get. it runs water thru the muffler to cool and quiet it down if you were to put any thing in line with the muffler to quiet it down it would not run well or at all .they are designed to have very little or no restriction on the exaust aftermarket exaust systems run it dry and bigger diameter for less restriction . being dry they are a lot hotter, that is why ther are a metal system instead of the rubber hoseing that the factory puts in.
