Trouble is on a distinguished road
Electronic Gurus?

Is it possible to design a heating unit(using PLC's ??) whereby you could control temperatures in multiple locations(10 to 12) independantly. Each zone would have its own heat source(up to 150 watts) and a probe running back to the unit in which you could programme the temp for that particular zone independantly of the others.
If possible what would I need(types) of sensor/probes,plc's etc.

cheers

PLC's are wasted on a project like this, just build an analog circuit with a thermistor, transistor, potentiometer and relay. Besides isn't analog input with a PLC difficult?

i was gonna say go for it with the plc but it looks like SS knows what he is talking about and it would be a lot cheaper doing it his way so i would take his advice

Not even the analog input, adjusting the temperature on a PLC would be much more difficult then using a thermistor and variable Resistor w/ a relay to control on/off stuff. If you are looking for digital stuff, then there are alternatives that I've seen out there (remote temp monitoring/control) but the other way sounds to be the best option for what you would like.

Thanx for the input Guys,
I dunno about the pros and cons of all this as I am a total n00b when it comes to this stuff.I just thought I would throw it out and see what I got.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to obtain the necessary componants to build something along the lines of what I need?Thermistors, resistors etc.

All I need to do is heat a small section of about 1MTR boxes to about 34C but I want to be able to control each box individually. The heat sources will be 240V ceramic globes.I want to have all the controls in one box if possible along with a small lcd screen or something like that where I could call up any zone and get a temp reading also to be able to adjust temps from there as well.
Any help would be muchly appreciated.

cheers
