How Much Are These Drawings Worth??

My friend drew them using pens. The first one he said took 3 white gel pens and 2 months! They are very amazing looking. He wants to sell them cause he wants to buy a newer video card. He was hopeing to get $50 for the first one but thats just how much he thinks its worth since it took so much time. Im not sure if "normal people" will think the same though =/

Also whats the best place to sell these online? Ebay? Or is there an auction site dedicated to art that is better?

Thanks for the help,

Sam

Heres some extreme close ups of the first one and the amount of detail in it:

Here's how I'd approach it:

Well, lets say he has 200 hours in the first one and 100 in the second. He needs to set a minimum wage per hour that he will do art for. This should be your minimum bid that he will accept.

Be sure to include the exact size of the art, and offer a letter of authenticity such that includes a small (original) sample of the artwork.

See what you can get. If you sell it for more than your minimum bid, use that price as a base for the next auction!

Good Luck!

311sam, I have to tell you: Art doesn't get paid by the hour. It gets paid by what people think it's worth at the time. A piece that took Picasso 15 minutes probably went for several thousand when he was alive; lots more now.

Vincent van Gogh only sold one painting during his entire lifetime.

On the other hand, stuff by LeRoy Neiman goes for tens of thousands, maybe more. Go figure.

Back in '68 when the hemisphere opened in san antonio there was an artist who drew with a black bic pen. His art were selling for $20-$65 and they were some good drawings. Your friend's are almost a negative images of his drawings. Some of his drawings are buildings, people, and things though and they're very nice.

Your friend has talent. What are they worth? I haven't a clue. But I think he should hone his works down into something that's a little more coherent, and he could really have something.

That kind of work is great for people who like to stare at things for hours on end and find all the neat little things hidden in there, but it appears to me like he's trying hard not to make any kind of a statement of his own. And it seems to me that it's hardly art unless you're really expressing yourself.

So, as it stands, I might give him $50 each, maybe $75 depending on the frame and my mood. But if he'll concentrate his energies on something with a little more focus, I think he could make a good living for himself.

Just MHO, and I'm no art critic.

311Sam, just send a PM to Knothead (in case he doesn't see this thread). He knows a lot about art, and might be able to give your friend some good advice.

Good luck to him. He looks like he has some basic talents that could develop into something.

Cheers
Mick

From far away they look like scratchboards. Very nice details.
