Does anyone HATE their job, but....

Does anyone hate their job, but simply stay at it because you're too unmotivated to find another one? Either that or you don't think you'll be able to find another one that you're good at?

I'm a graphic designer and I absolutely HATE what I do. I don't hate the company, I just HATE designing... I even went to school for it, and thought it was something I liked, but after a while, I just don't like it anymore...
I have too many bills to pay right now to bother finding a different career or going back to school, it's just so frustrating.
I hate spending hours and hours coming up with ideas and artwork constantly for clients to just have them tell me it sucks, or it doesn't work... I can't stand it anymore!!! AAAAHH!

I feel like I'm never going to actually be happy to go to my job everyday... Which I SHOULD be happy, shouldn't I?
I get up every morning, and just lay there thinking... "oh god... I don't want to do this crap anymore".

But I don't know how I should go about finding something new, something different when I'm so limited on time and the biggest factor, MONEY.

Sorry dude.
I can somewhat relate. I went to school for computer science. Mostly focused on networking (with novell, ha...quite a while back) and pc building. So what so I do for a living?
I work for a railroad...outside. 100's this last week, no a/c in my machine. sub 30s in the winter, no machine... Breaking my back, killing my joints.
I do like the freedom and the chance to be in a different location though. That's why I chose something other than computers. I couldn't see myself working in the same brick box every day of the week.
It's also hard to get a good tan under those flourescent bulbs
The more I age the more I look to get an inside job though. Hopefully in the next 10 years or so, I'll find something else.

Second that, Toadman!

It's funny, just today, I was out with my friend Deni, and she just got laid off from a job that she hated.

"Oh, the money was great, it was the work. I'd wake up in the morning and think, AAARRGGHHHH 8 hours of ******!"

Now she's gonna get her comic book company going again, she's going to do something she LIKES!!

Here's the punchline...as she was telling me about this, I was wondering what that must be like...going to work at a job you hate...I've been self-employed about 25 years.

I just got a job as a production assistant a couple months ago right out of college.

I feel bad for the art directors who make all this artwork but for lawyers. These plain, broing saps who show no appreciation for the work thats done whatsoever and they just make us slave till 3:30am to get this done "oh wait you have to go back and add this comma that we didnt want before but do now".

Then re-save, re-rasterize, re-send just to have them do the same frickin thing all the time.

This isn't my type of work and i plan on going back to college in a year. I wanted some real work experience but as a designer i dont want to be a director. I dont like being told how my work should look or work within other people boundaries. It's not fun. In 3 months im already aching for something different.

Graphic Arts is a WIDE field but it's limited in where we can go and what we can do depending on what we know, how much we know, and how long we've been doing it.

I can somewhat relate to you but at an earlier level.

PS,

I hate adobe illustator but it's a good skill to know......ugh.

I'm resisting the urge to go postal in this thread.

Hate my job? Only for 2 more months.
