I was coming home from a diner with my friend in the car when I see lights behind me so I pull over and the cop tells me I've been speeding. He goes to his car and returns later with a ticket. I saw "vascar plus" on the ticket so I said "you timed me with marks on the road?" He says, "yeah and I had my device calibrated today". Anyway I was timed for a whole 6.30 seconds, so claiming innacuracy probably won't fly. I am showing up to court but I also need a plan if the cop shows up. What got my attention was that he said he timed me using the reflection of my headlight against an orange cone in the road which hardly seems accurate. I thought about saying that my right headlight was out at the time but I don't know how that will work for me.
This is what he wrote on the ticket:
Miles timed: 0.0753
Seconds timed: 6.30
He got me for doing 43.1 in a 25 zone which was leading into a 45 zone. Do I stand a chance?
If you have ANY doubts (Well even if you don't) I would hire a ticket lawyer. That's a pretty bad ticket. The ticket lawyer may cost a bit, but he can help with no insurance points.
Well um techicially if you are in a 25mph zone and it leads up to the 45 mph zone you need to be staying 25 till your car reaches at or past the 45mph sign in order to accellerate. you can't be accellerating a ways back to be going 45 at the moment you reach that sign.
I think you'll just have to suck it up and admit you are wrong and were speeding in a 25mph zone.
As in I don't want driving advice. I think I can figure out when to speed up or slow down but our cops seem to be bored around here so they picked me off for doing 18mph over on a wide open road that should be at least 45mph.
