US Faces "Iraqi Guerrilla War"
From the BBC: Quote:
The US chief of military operations in Iraq has admitted that attacks against US troops in the country bore the hallmarks of a "classic guerrilla-type campaign".
"I think describing it as guerrilla tactics is a proper way to describe it in strictly military terms," Centcom commander General John Abizaid said at a Pentagon briefing.
"It's low intensity but it's war however you describe it." ...

Its gonna take several thousand more body bags coming back before Bush will do anything.
That is the tragedy.

I can understand why they are frustrated. Nothing like having the military tell you that you can't come home (several times) and then see your friends die.
So what is Rumsfeld going to say to this? A week and a half ago or so he denied these claims.

Not much of news...it was obvious this would happen and it's been obvious it has been happening since the end of the war.

Orders get cut, and changed all the time. The needs of the mission dictate this necessity. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No. It is the life of a Soldier in a hostile zone. People die in hostile zones, that is a fact. The casualties of this conflict have been very light, considering the scope of the mission. One point that seems to be overlooked here is that Freedom is not free, nor cheap. It is payed for with the blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifices by the American Soldier. Always has been, always will be. It is an all volunteer force, and those of us who have been, or are there now, understood the risks when we signed on the dotted line.

I didn't mind serving my time to defend the USA but not for a sorry bunch of infidel hating lowlifes. The soldiers won the war , now the politicians need to win the peace or did they think the Iraqs would just bend over backwards with KY jelly in their hands.
I've been there and seen the way life is led in that part of this glorious planet, and those people do not understand democracy and never will. You need an iron hand with fear and intimidation to rule. I hate seeing our boys wasted for the likes of them.

I like the way in which Mr. Bush sent your "boys" and women I may add across the world to risk and lose their lives, when he in typical snake-like fashion slipped away from his patriotic duty to defend his nation.

The war ain't over yet. Imagine our troops are now sitting surrounded by millions of American hating Iraqi. For most Iraqi having an AK-47S in the home is like people in the U.S. having a television set. Now you have Iraqi walking up behind American soldiers and popping a round into their heads execution style. Grenade launchers being shot at random American vehicles, and when they start Jihad you'll have human bombs walking into the larger checkpoints covered in C4 and drywall screws.
How many years did it take us to finally pull out of nam ?, do you think GWB's puppet masters will allow anybody to admit a mistake was made ?

The military is once again putting on blinders. They say the enemy is Saddam loyalists. I think it is a mixture.
* The first thing the U.S. did was disband the Iraqi army. Now they have 400,000 guys around that lost their jobs and were expecting pensions. Now they have nothing. They may be upset.
* Inspite of what the U.S. downplays, many families were destroyed. Family member revenge is a factor.
* There may be people who are loyal to Saddam too. However, every indication is that these attacks are not coordinated by a central Saddam organization.
* Iraqis are angry that they don't have services yet - water, elect., etc.
Unfortunately, our foreign policy is run by simpltons that couldn't think beyond winning the war. This is why we on the left wanted the U.N. involved and a broader coalition. We've already proved that there was no need to rush to war. In Gulf War I, the U.S. paid 15% of the cost. In this one, nobody is willing to come in after-the-fact.
Bush broke it and now it's hard to fix.
