Father diagnosed with cancer
My Dad just called me and told me he has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer. He is 77 and the doctor says because of his age it is inoperable and will treat with radiation instead of chemo (sp?).
Anyone with experience on this?
Sadly, (understatement)
Bill

Sad news. Good luck. With modern medicine, this is treatable but Chemotherapy is not pleasant.

Hey man sorry to hear.
My mom has been fighting cancer for 5 years now. It got to her Lymph nodes. Everyday is a battle. At least once a year one of her legs swells up so bad she has to spend 4-5 days @ Yale.
She also had radiation instead of chemo. Just recently they found a little more and had to try and remove itall. Radiation takes its toll and they have to wait along time to do it again. ( because the body can't take it)
Best thing to do is stick with him and don't become complacent with it. I think my kids and my niece are the only thing that keeps her going. Certain people in my family seem to "forget" she has friggin cancer....I am not getting into that.....just remember it is harder on the person that actually has it, than the people who have to help out a little more.
Not to get all "Conspiracy theory" , but someone has to find a cure for this 5h!7!....maybe to much money in "research" to actually have a cure.....cynical?...yes I am.
best wishes to your dad

Do you live close to your father? | Do I live close? Yeah, physically only 400 miles.
Mentally......for the past I don't know how many years I generallly call him and my mother at least 3 - 4 times a day.

Gee, sorry to hear the news, I just lost my Mother a couple weeks ago. It was sudden but I was concerned about her every day because she was becoming weaker physically. She tried to hide her problems, but I knew she was reaching the end. She was 81. I will keep your family in my prayers, times like this are tough on everyone.

I have a cousin (only 23) who has had cancer for the last 3 years. He only has a couple of years to go, and he gets very down a lot.
My heart goes out to you and your father, but there is nothing better for them than having you there, either on the phone, e-mail or physically, just to help them - all the best mate.
