NOW I see why Daveleau was upset

With the American Civil Liberties Union !

Quote "three bronze plaques inscribed with biblical passages have been removed by U.S. park officials over concern that the religious messages violate the U.S. Constitution"

Its the Grand Canyon, what buildings were they attached to? HOW INAPROPRIATE were the plaques irreguardless of where they were??

Vern

Just what is it about the "separation of church and state" that you don't get?

The ACLU takes up so many good cases that I don't mind if they take up a case like this.
Besides all they need to do is put the plaques off federal property. (Unfortunately almost all of it is federal territory)

"O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches."

I see this as fitting for the Grand Canyon. Just because the bible is quoted doesn't mean it's offensive. It's the same reason that if I were to quote Al Capone or Nero (why would I quote him tho?..all his sayings sucked ) it wouldn't be offensive, provided the quote wasn't something like 'I like to kill' or 'Feed the whores to the Lions'.

Personally, I think that some people are reading way to much into the seperation of church and state. I don't think the way that the libs in general try to interpret that is what the founding fathers had in mind at all. I think they just didn't want the church running the government...... (IE as England was basically ruled by the Church in their time.)

God is mentioned in several documents written by our forfathers .......... so are we supposed to take the eraser to that too ??? Give me a break...... common sense seems to be a rarity nowdays.......

Sure it is fitting for the grand canyon... but the question remains... Is the grand canyon any less majestic without the plaques?

But say I'm an art critic. I write a peice on a work of art in the local Museum of Art that somebody at the mesueum framed and placed next to the work. The art's not any less or more beautiful than before, but right beside it is what someone else said about that work of art. Would it be morally right (not legally, that's not the question I'm asking) for City Hall to demand it be taken down because the quote "It was as if god himself took the hand of the artist and helped him paint the best work of art I've seen." was in the article? It wouldn't take anything away from the art work, nor would it add anything...
