US Transgressions in Iraq

Routine air space violations of sovereign countries, murder of villagers, heavyhandedness of US soldiers stationed in Iraq are only increasing tensions and resulting in retaliatory action against the soldiers.

Full story here.

Sounds like syria needs to patrol their side of the border to keep these type of incidents from happening. Their turning of a blind eye to smuggling is causing americans to have to deal with a threat from these criminals. Syrians entering a sovereign country with out permission or papers is illegal.

The story about planes crossing air space sounds a bit far fetched. any such encroachment probably is a product of syrian miscalculation.

I say this because the navigation systems should clearly indicate any accidental encursions. Of course this could be intentional incursions but I could not figure the benefit of that.

Personally if I were a Syrian in a war zone smuggling where I could be perceived as an enemy I might kinda expect to be in danger. Same would go for visiting friends. Maybe not before the first incident but definitely after.

One can actually say that any syrian crossing the border is now either a retard or up to no good.

My arse it is family (perhaps verys stupid 50 IQ members as well) but don't you think that you would try to acquire permission to make the trip after the first few people were killed.

people still crossing are either.
1) Retarded.
2) Up to no Good.

Nope cant think of 3

This is part of what was quoted in the article:

"Villagers living along the border here say that since the fall of Mr. Hussein, the Americans have been blocking families with members on both sides of the border from visiting one another."

"Soldiers on the Syrian side of the border said American soldiers shot dead two cousins, one Iraqi and one Syrian, as they crossed into Iraqi territory about three weeks ago. "

"The Americans are firing at random, firing at so many people," said Maj. Ali Shamad, the chief of the Syrian border post, who confirmed the deaths of the two villagers and the wounding of two more. "Their planes come over the border every day. The Americans have gone too far."

Now Epidemic, I have no reservation that your instantaneous dismissal should hold more weight than the words of the reporter actually in the field in Iraq, but that aside, could we just for a moment try to put ourselves on the other side of this?

Imagine jumpy Mexican soldiers crossing the border to Texas on a good cause mission shooting Americans. This is how these Syrian villagers feel.

The reporter said that he did not know if the planes had crossed.

The reporter is reporting what syrians have seen.

Unless of course you are telling me the reporters name is Maj. Ali Shamad.

"Imagine jumpy Mexican soldiers crossing the border" I do not know if I read anywhere where american soldiers were crossing the border. Maj. Ali Shamad said planes have overflown (perhaps or perhaps not).

Everything in the report of the reporter was second hand information. It may be valid but it is all second hand with only one part of the story mentioned. I am sure the Syrians are upset. But please do tell me what a soldier is supposed to think when someone sneaks through the desert in the middle of the night in a war zone(Retard, or Enemy). I think Syria and the US should arrange some sort of picture id for family members and official routes for them to follow. But this is a border with a neighbor known to supply the enemy with bodies and weapons. It must be controlled.

People who need to traverse the border need to be checked out and follow rules. If they do not then it is going to be treated as an act of aggression.

I'll accept that, you just don't trust the Syrian general as a source.

I don't know the General so I have no reason to trust him. The fact that these people are crossing with so much danger makes me feel as if the story is inflated or that the people are up to no good. If there is a need for Syrians to cross the border Syria should make sure it's citizens do so in a formal way with Identification. After all I am sure that they would have to be understanding of what an new occupying force is up against.
