HELP UNKNOWN PURCHASES!!
Hey guys, this i sjust wierd, somehow someone from this IP address, went to my newegg account and purchased all this system memory for a computer??? They didn't even use my credit card!!!!! I'm really nervous, i do not know how to deal with this type of situation, will I get in trouble for this sorta stuff. I usually lock my room and no one that I do not know ever gets in my house. I logged on tonight after going out and I check my mail and to my surprise two pieces of memory were ordered from newegg, i check my bank account and none of my money is missing??? I don't know what to do, how do I contact these types of things and whats the legal issue here. Its kinda late and I can't stop thinking about this, it just happened i'm shocked, i sent an e-mail stating i didn't make those purchases, any idea on what to do next???

Firstly, make sure the didn't use your credit card number. very important to know that, so you can cancel it if need be ASAP.
It's not so difficult to spoof an IP address. All they would need is to know your IP and your newegg account number. Does newegg have a password on accounts or not? Do they do accounts by email address or by username?
Also, if could be a newegg datatbase error, so await an answer from them. Is delivery to your address, or somewhere else?
If the items are delivered to you, make sure you know the correct procedures to return them if they were ordered by someone else.
Hope someone who regularly uses newegg can help more.
Cheers
Mick
addit: none of this means anyone has used your computer, It can all be done from any computer with internet access, and the right cracking (that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one! ).

I'd suggest cancelling the order. Even if they didnt' use your account, they may have shipped it COD or something (dont' htink newegg allows it but the point remains the same) You don't want a company coming after you for somebody elses purchase.
Also change the password on your email address that you use with newegg. If somebody guessed hte password on your email they could of changed your password on newegg then been able to access your account.
(see if you can logon to new egg normally)
also make sure nobody in the family/friends used your newegg account. As Mick said your PC is not required.. only your newegg account name/pass... typically people use very easy passwords and can be guessed with minimal problem.
If your username is fufiter9246 and your password is fufiter9246 then you have a problem

Change ALL your passwords. Make sure your PC isnt being used as a proxy as well, that would make it appear to be coming from your IP.
Call your bank/cc company. Verify with them that no charges have been made or authorized. Have them record and incident, possibly get a new card/number.
See if newegg will let you rename/delete your account.
Now is the time to nip it in the bud. If whoever it is keeps going it could get real messy. I would even change all my CCs to be safe.

Also even if this turns out to be a database error or someone using your IP I would make sure that it cant happen again.
If someone orders stuff from your IP , you WILL get the blame for it.Could be expensive.

IP doesnt prove alot. It doesnt prove the identity of the person placing the order. If it is on a credit card, you are cool either way. Just tell them whats going on, dispute any charges and you should be fine.

i am going to today when their offices are open, i'm on the east coast. But i'm asking, what if someone took my credit card and made online purchases, how would I be able to track down where and when this happened and from who????

Newegg will have the "ship-to" address, so you'll know exactly where it's going.
The stores up here that I deal with always voice call if the ship to address is different then the Credit Card address, I think this is standard practice for most companies.
