Man shot to death on highway

On the Borman Expressway near me, Interstate 80/94 to everyone else, a man was shot in the head when another vehicle pulled alongside his. The thing is, he called friends to say he was being followed by someone he knew, and obviously didn't trust. He was wanted on some things and was probably paranoid, naturally.

Relatives of Muhammad told WGN-Ch. 9 the man had just left a friend's house in Gary when he called his friend to say he was being followed by people he knew.

My question is that if you know you're being followed by some bad dudes who might want to hurt you, why not get the heck outta there? I would welcome a ticket, or in his case jail, to being shot in the head. My car does over 130 MPH; I'd be long gone.

As police sought witnesses to the Tuesday night slaying of a 29-year-old man on the Borman Expressway in northwestern Indiana, relatives of the victim said he may have known his attackers.

Omar Muhammad, of Merrillville, Ind., was shot and killed shortly after 9 p.m. when another vehicle apparently pulled alongside his black Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck on the westbound Borman (Interstate Highways 80-94) near Cline Avenue, police said.

Police responding to reports of shots fired from one vehicle to another found Muhammad in the cab of his bullet-riddled truck.

"We're not sure what happened. We just aren't sure what went on," said Indiana State Police spokeswoman Ann Wojas.

Relatives of Muhammad told WGN-Ch. 9 the man had just left a friend's house in Gary when he called his friend to say he was being followed by people he knew.

The relatives said Muhammad was shot once in the head and was dead when police reached him.

Wojas said police are asking for help from anybody who was in the vicinity of Cline Avenue westbound on I-80 in Indiana between 9 p.m. and 9:10 p.m.

"If you have any information, if you heard anything, saw anything that might be of use, please call us," she said.

Maybe he didn't actually know their names. Maybe it was a Reservoir Dogs scenario where he just knows them as Mr Blue, Mr Blonde, Mr Pink, Mr Orange....
