City of God

Watched it last night, a very long and brutal movie that portrays life in the slums of Brazil based on a number of true stories. It was very eye opening, perhaps too much so. The film follows the lives of a number of children living in the City of God, some of them become gang members others try to lead a good life with what little they have, their paths cross, sometimes fatally.

A good thought provoking film.

best movie i've seen so far in 2003

the film ends on this note ...
a group of children, average age i'd say 7, walking away from the camera with guns, casually chatting ..

"hey dudes, we need to make a hitlist of people we need to kill", says the oldest in the group (10 years), "so who knows how to write?"
the youngest in the group (5 years) is the only one!

i didnt think it was long, its very fast paced with some RAW camerawork, good narration and screenplay. and yes, thought provoking to the extreme. these movies make me think twice when i start bitching on the lines of 'life's not fair, life sucks' and all that ...

to add to the state of affairs, this news report is relevant..
