Batting sausages

Randall Simon, the Pirate's first baseman, was questioned by sheriff's officers after he half-swung and hit a sausage costumed employee, knocking her and another woman down as they ran past the dugout. A stupid move for sure, but the Brewer's (home team) VP reacted thusly:

Rick Schlessinger, Brewers' executive vice president for business operations, called Simon's conduct "one of the most outrageous things I've ever seen inside a ballpark or outside a ballpark. It sickened me to see it."

Is he kidding? How about benchclearing brawls? How about fans attacking umpires? How about fans attacking players? How about the highway robbery that goes on at the food counters?

I agreed with him when I heard it on the radio. Then I saw the video and nearly died laughing. Not at the injury incurred by the act. Nor the act itself. It was the blowing out of proportion of the whole thing. To me it looked like a stupid prank. He swung the bat lightly and relatively slowly. Apparently did damage but it is clear that there was no malice intended. It looks to me as if he figured it would not hurt the person inside.

IMHOOC of course.

Treated for scraped knees (what a violent sickening act) The act of an obviously viscious and sadistic man bent on destroying sausages everwhere.

Well I see it as this: If he wanted to really hurt the sausage , he would have really taken a crack at it.

The video was pretty funny. Looked like something I always wanted to do...umm, forget that! I agree it's blown out of proportion, but I do think he should be punished in some way. Imagine if he swung HARD! Ouch!

It doesnt matter "how slowly" he swung the bat he was still deliberately attempting to hit the girl with the bat.

There was a time when people went to baseball games to watch people hit a ball, not a girl in a sausage suit.
