Babysitting
My daughter wants to give babysitting a shot. Now she has no clue on what the going rates for babysitters are and neither do I.
So I'm asking you, the good people of TIMO to come forward and post on what you think is a fair price to charge to watch a 7 year old boy.

Depends on what time of day, for how long, what she has to do while looking after him, etc.
My dau does some babysitting Down Here. Depends on the age of the child (she gets less for over 3's who require less physical care), the time of the day (less for night after bed time), and whether she has to do other household chores as well (like make the kids lunches or whatever).
Can't give ya market prices as she gets paid in AUD$
Cheers
Mick

You mean you actually found a babysitter ?!
er...should I say, have one available?
I lost mine to a move to Texas ( them, not me ).
Send her over!
We usually paid between 10-20 dollars depending on how much we felt we inconvenienced whomever watched the kids.
Some have an hourly rate. Personally, if the kids a minor and the babysitting job is close to home/ isn't too inconvenient, I'd pay $3/hr, perhaps more. I figure close to half minimum wage to 3/4ths.

Last time I paid for a babysitter (11yrs ago) she charged $7.oo/hour, needless to say we watched the clock. I only had a babysitter a few times. I know we paid too much, but then again, the package is priceless!!!
I'd say she could easily ask at least $5/hour. The best way to find out is to call some local ads or ask a mom at the grocery store or something like that.
Mickwish has some valid points. Age, time of day, number of kids, cleaning, feeding, diapers.... all points to consider.
If she checks at a local hospital, they may have 'babysitting classes' where you gain some usefull information....
Good Luck to your girl, hope she has some good kids to watch over!!!!!!

edit - 7 year old boy, I think it would depend if he was a good or bad child. Negotiate. If homework is involved, definately more.

Price also depends on the age, I mean taking care of an 8-year old boy is probably easier then a 2-year old boy

Depens on the boy, believe me,
My dau looked after one 4 yo the parents were willing to pay almost TWICE as much as going rate for. She quickly found out why - he's a terror!

Like everyone says, depends on the child.
