Yeah, uh huh, and there is no liberal bias in academia or law or Hollywood either, for that matter! Uh-huh! |

[sigh] Tom Tomorrow...that guy. Mark my words, one of these days, he will be funny. I get the sense he's trying to be funny, so I give him an "E" for effort. But keep trying Tom, no funny yet, but you're getting there.[shrug]
A liberal bias most certainly does exist in the mainstream media, however it might more accurately be described as liberal leaning. There is no intential bias, and there's no secret meetings where the liberals gather weekly to discuss what will be reported this week. Anyone that even hints as such nonsense is nothing short of paranoid delusional.
But it is no secret that an unnaturally high percentage of journalist/reporters are liberal. The percentages are WAY out of whack compared to the general population of the US.
I'll even give most journalists the benefit of the doubt and believe that they honestly do their best to keep any personal views out of their stories. But it's simply not humanly possible to suppress one's voewpoint 100%, 100% of the time. Media Research Center Media Bias Basics How to Identify Liberal Media Bias Don't See Liberal Media Bias? It's not so much bias as it is control of what people know of events that happen.
The bias consists of Progressive Left editorial decisions about what's news and what isn't news... events featuring the protected, special interest groups of the Left will almost always make it to the evening news.
If a nutcase with a gun shoots a few people, you'll see network coverage, and news breaks with real-time coverage, but if someone uses a firearm to defend themselves or their family it will just show up a a news item on page 20 of your local newspaper.
Conversely, events which show those same darlings of the Left in a bad light will almost never appear on the evening news... the Mathew Sheppard case is a good example, a terrible crime, but overblown in the media with media breast beating for days, TV movies, etc., but where was the media outrage and coverage (what, no TV movie?) when 2 homosexuals (in Arkansas I believe) kidnapped a small boy, sexually molested him for 2 days and then brutally murdered him?
Unfortunately, the average American is woefully ill-informed mainly because for most Americans, if they didn't see it happen on TV, it didn't happen.

If anyone believes that there is a liberal bias in mainstream news they must also believe that FOXnews is 'fair and balanced' too.
There are dozens of right-wing talk show programs. Here's a few:
Rush Limbaugh, G. Gordon Liddy, Bob Grant, Sean Hannity, Alan Keyes, Armstrong Williams, Howie Carr, Oliver North, Michael Savage, Michael Reagan, Pat Robertson, Laura Schlessinger - these are only a few of the voices that day after day pound a right-wing drumbeat into the heartland of this country.
How many left-wing shows are there? None. http://www.fair.org/extra/0108/fox-main.html

Al Franken:: 'To make the argument that the media has a left- or right-wing, or a liberal or a conservative bias, is like asking if the problem with Al-Qaeda is do they use too much oil in their hummus. And sometimes they do use too much oil, and sometimes they don't use enough. But the real problem with Al-Qaeda is they want to kill us. And the real problem with the press is all the other biases that they have. Those include: get the story fast; scandal; negativity; sexiness – you know, ratings will be up if we go to war. '

"Liberal Bias" --hmmmm......
Seems like a contradiction of terms to me. Like saying hot ice or cold fire. | |
