Political differences aside- We are truly blessed

I know we all have our hang-ups about our government and we can fight it out like cats and dogs debating the smallest tidbit regarding our political system and our leaders. But, despite all of the strife, I hope we all know that we are truly blessed to be living in America. No offense to our foreign visitors, but to be born and live in America is something that many of us takes for granted. We could have been born in India, where the class system could have dictated our lives, or Russia where we could only advance if we knew people in the Politburo. We could have been born in Ethiopia, where food is scarce, or in Somalia where warlords purposefully starve the inhabitants as a political tool. We could have been in the Middle East, where people are killed because of their race or religion on a daily basis. Even if we have differences about our government and the way it is run, we are really blessed that we live here. We argue about the minuscule differences between our Republican and Democratic parties, but in many European nations Nazi, Communist and Socialist parties still vie for power. Many are offended about how some profess their faith, but in countries like China, people can express no faith at all other than faith in the Communist party.

Being in America, is the greatest blessing that could be bestowed upon us. And I know that the most rabid Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or fringe political group follower would have life no other way than it is today in America- Free and Ever changing to the will of the People.

We may have our differences and scream about injustices, but each side only wants to preserve our nation so we don't end up like the other guy. We are all in it for the same thing - American Freedom and Justice, even though we all can often disagree on how to get there.

Don't mean to crap the thread Dave, but the caste system is a thing of the past in India and is only prevalent in a very very very small portion of the country.
But I get your overall point. To me, the greatest blessing America gives her people to an extent that no other country can is opportunity. Unlike other countries, you are guaranteed a better life if you are willing to work hard. America is the personification of Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity.

Hmmm, let us ask Shahani if the caste system is truly gone. He has some first hand experience.

The Politburo is defunct for the most part as well, but these were on the top of my head so...

Dinesh D'Souza's and Ravi Zaccharias' both talk at length about their experiences in both worlds in their books. It is very interesting. I digress.

I hate it when people stress things to the point where it seems that the rest of the world is hell to live in. There are other countries that offer the same things, maybe not many, but there are, so please dont poprtray the rest of the world like it's full of savage beasts that cannot properly run a country.

America also has its fair share of problems and in many areas it lags behind many countries in many things. Crime levels are lower and literacy is higher in alot of european countries also the provision of health is better in many countries. There is still minorities in america that feel that they are persecuted for their circumstances Even in some of the countries you mentioned most people are perfectly happy and do not envy you or your situations in life.

Yes we should be thankful for what we have, and I know that was the main gist of what you were saying, but things are not that bad outside of your borders.

Have to agree with kjg I'm afraid. Yes, those in US should think themselves lucky they have freedom and democracy, but so do many other countries.

Wherevere we are, we should look to build on what we do well, and do better at what we don't do so well in.

Political infighting ain't gonna help that happen, no matter what country you are in. We need to work together more. At every level - local, state, nation, international.

IMO, anyway.

Cheers
Mick

Caste sytem is very much prevalent particularly in smaller towns and very much prevalent in villages and rural areas.

While I agree on many points and think the US is probably the best place to live in the world it is certainly not without a lot of prejudice, bigotism, bias, racism and so on.

I have worked here with an Irish company and guess what? All senior executives are Irish.

Look around at the inner city segregation.

Look at the way Jewish people are treated.

Indeed, every nationality lives in its own sphere of influence. Not that everything is so extreme. But you get the picture.

There is division here and everywhere based on religion, culture, race, nationality, you name it. This is not in the US only.

It is human nature.

But, amongst all countries, perhaps it is the least here.

Except for African Americans.

As Bush said yesterday, and I don't think I quote him too often because only garbage comes out from him, but he said that the history of African Americans is the history of the greatest crime against mankind. I am paraphrasing.

So there you have it. Yes, its the best place in the world. And yes, it also has some of the worst characteristics of human society.

Just my views.

Why in the world would you quote garbage. If it's garbage why waste your time?

Look at the way Jews are treated? shahani, it appears you've been living in a small microcosm here and need to get out. Jewish people are some of the most wealthy and influential people in the country. Ever see a movie? Ever been to Century City? Beverly Hills? Seen a Cedar Sinai hospital?

I worked for a Chinese company and all of the management but myself were Chinese,,,, so?
I worked for a couple Jewish owned companies all the owners were Jewish,,,, so?
Should I be appointed to a high ranking position just because I'm a white girl? I think not. Irish, Jewish, Chinese they are here and part of the freedom in America is you can hire who you want.
Nothing wrong with that.
I want to be hired on merit not statistics, most times that works out, when it doesn't I look elsewhere.

Inner city segregation? Are you talking about living conditions or the fact that peoples of the same seem to stick together.. What's wrong with that? And if you are talking about living conditions I think that will be changed by a grass roots movement... We saw what happened when Johnson built new high rise slums for the impoverished and developed a welfare system.

You know Dave I was thinking about the very same thing a couple days ago. That I was really forutunate that I ended up here though no effort of my own. I am gratefull for what I enjoy. I know that I have been blessed.
BTW, I grew up in an inner city... I didn't like it and I moved.
That's a big difference right there.
