Tax cuts or what? (your solution to economic woes?)
I am in favor of tax cuts.
I feel that they are one of the few options to stimulate a faultering economy. Any effort to stimulate the economy will cost money. I mean we could institute another great america plan and build a few bridges to nowhere and such but that will cost money as well (aka deficit). I vote for giving me a few thousand bucks so that I can spend it in the economy, invest it in the economy and so forth.
But what would your solution be to the economic woes?

Reduce military spending.
Reduce spending on unnecessary interferences in other countries.
Remove corrupt politicians (you know hoo I meen )
Tax the super rich 2%-5% more but give blue-collar labor like myself and Duke a break.
More after coffee. | |

Close the boarders. Enforce the time limit on green cards. As cheap labor gets scarce, wages will go up.
They say that immigrants do jobs Americans won't do. True. Here's an example from Sacramento, Ca from a construction manager friend of mine:
It it December, 2002 and stormy as hell. Rain off and on with a 30+Mph wind. The Mexican roofers are laying tile roofs on two story houses. He tells me, "I wouldn't ask my son or brother or any friends to do that work in these condiditons. But if one of these guys falls and gets hurt, you just hire his brother! The ship keeps moving!"
Another one from a resturanteur:"I can't get Americans to buss tables". We have a nation of welfare recipients who will work if the wages are high enough. When Raoul is not available at $ 6.25 per hour, maybe Kenny will do the same job for $ 8.25. Yes, the 300 meals served that shift will have to go up by $ 16.00 per shift. But Kenny will pay more taxes and will be off welfare.
Reign in spending, and get the poor off the dole and into the work force.
California motto: "Welfare to work to workmen's comp!"
California government motto: "Eat The Rich!"

I am with CC on this one. Here in Rocklin we have plenty of lawn care guys (mostly Mexicans) the pay is crappy, hard work, and normally during brutal weather. It's cheaper and easier to hire a Mexican over just some random guy because the Mexican is willing to take whatever he can get.
(Alright now maybe I will go to sleep?) |

Reduce military spending? ok bout a million people out of work there. Good idea (real economy booster there)
Reduce spending on unnecessary interferences in other countries.
Good idea (guess that depends on your definition of unnecessary) some said gulf war one was unecessary (of course god only knows where the economy would be with iraq in control of oil in kuwait and iraq.)
Tax the super rich 2%-5% more but give blue-collar labor like myself and Duke a break. Good idea. (that would raise inflation as those costs would be shifted to the population with no value added.) Tax cuts on the other hand allow for prices to remain stable while giving you more money.
I am all for removing corrupt politicians. And I know just who you are talking about, Hillary, Daschel... |

Chuckie,
Of course you now have killed what little export business we have because we can not sell goods over seas, florida citrus growers now have expensive rotting fruit sitting in crates feeding fruit flies. The expensive workers are now un-employed again and no one is going to the resturant to buy lunch for 20 dollars a plate. (exaggeration for effect).
rather than close the borders (cut welfare checks ) people will work for chump change if they have no other alternative for acquiring food.
I do agree with closing the borders (by force) to all but legal immigrants in quantity required for business (exploitation) needs .
maw and pa's resturant and farmer johns farm should place requests for workers with the government and that should drive immigration. Job postings outside of the embasy in mexico should be listed and the best applicant (healthy, educated...) should be interviewed in their respective country.

| That is socialist. This is America, where what you work for is what you get. Well, at least it was before social security. The "super rich" earned their money, so it should be theirs to keep right? You could twist "evryone should be equal" as an excuse but everyone already is equal. You all have the same chance and oppertunity to make it big. Should we penalize those who do? NO! Also, who has the money for those lucrative big ticket items like 42" HDTV's, brand new mercedes-benz, ect. The more you tax these rich people, the less they will have to spend on these items, which pays OUR salaries. When the government starts giving handouts to people, they think "why shoud I work as hard? I'll get the money anyway." Everytime you see a bum on the street, that is the end result of the wonderful plan of social security. Some of this may have been a bit off topic, but when ya get a rant goin, its hard to stop. |
