The California GOP's budget-balancing plan

Quote:
The Republican plan would cut all state funding for abortions. It would do away with the Seismic Safety Commission, whose role is to protect the public from earthquake hazards. And it would reduce by 60% the budget for the California Youth Authority, the agency responsible for disciplining youthful offenders.

Other cuts included eliminating health care clinics for American Indians (saving $6.5 million); withholding the $50 monthly payment to poor, blind men and women to help feed their seeing-eye dogs; doing away with medical evaluation of low-income children ($51 million); and ending a program that pays for the burial of foster children. ...

...In earlier news conferences, the Republicans called for closing the shortfall in part by:

• Cutting elementary school education by more than $1 billion a year. The savings would come partly from postponing children's enrollment in kindergarten.

• Lopping $450 million from the state prison system.

• Withholding from the University of California and California State University systems a sum of money that each would need to run a large campus.
And these are the people who want to remove Gray Davis?

Even some GOP members are opposed to this.

There is not enough money in the state of California to fund every half-baked program we have now.

Take the Indian care. The Indian casino's have given upwards of 15 million dollars to the states politicians. The exact numbers are unknown since they don't feel they are covered by the reporting requirements. The politicians lining their pockets with their money agree with them. Why don't the Indians take care of them. Aren't they a soverign nation? Oh, I see...Not that kind of soverign.

There is plenty of fat to cut in California. Food for guide dogs is already part of the package of aid to the blind. It's just garnish.

State prison's: correctional officers routienly make $60,000 + due to overtime. Especially, since sick leave goes to hours worked that week. Thus, if you are sick 5 days and work a 6th you are paid overtime for the 6th day. Only in the prison system. The correctional officers are one of Grey Davis's largest contributers! They are the only state "system" to get a pay raise during this crisis. One of my sons is a prison guard and he is laughing all the way to the bank. God love that lad!

Maybe if we stopped subsidising college education for illegal aliens, (don't ask, don't tell) we wouldn't need another campus. Same goes with our bankrupt hospitals, and schools. Just who pays the bills around here?

What about the "Museum of Tolerance" in LA. No doubt someone's brother in law is making 100K a year running it. Why are we sending teachers "all expenses paid, air fair and time" to a special interest group's project. (Holocaust, Gay, Ethnic, not sure who else. Sheep?.) And then she comes back to the class room and buys crayons with thier own money!

Move here Theo, please! We need your taxes! This state is BROKE!

BTW: GBW & (national) GOP is against the recall.
