**Note** the installation of AOL Internet Provider Software VOIDS Warranty

This is the 2nd line on my "Product List" of Computers & Parts

Oddly enough instead of getting a ration of crap, instead I hear about;

"We HAD AOL on our machine, all it did was slow it down and screw it all up, had to get rid of it"

The story is similar with several AOL users now AOL Haters.

These are not "Computer Geeks" like present company either.

It's heartwarming to know that the word about AOL is slowly getting around.

AOL is the Yugo of ISPs

Yup, we were on AOL back when we first got online, i guess it was 1996 - and didn't know any better - it didn't take long - what I remember best was trying to cancel it, they kept offering more free months, and I kept saying no thanks, I think they got up to 4 months before I finally convinced them that I meant NO!

AOL charged my dad $400 for going 24 hours overtime way back when....

(He left it on and went away)

My friend's dad went away for two days and got charged $800

Screw AOL!

So, Doc, you mean if I were to buy this computer, the manufacturer will not honor its warranty if I select an internet provider not to its liking?

There's a company that stands behind its products! Think I'll stay away.

That is Correct.

I DO NOT WARRANTY the machines that I build if the user installs the AOL.Virus

It causes massive problems that are difficult to troubleshoot.

If a customer wants to use AOL, I suggest that they buy a Compaq

GEEZ Doc, that's LOW!!!

It's bad enough to WANT to load AOL, but then for you to suggest that they buy a Compaq if they want AOL!

Why not just give them a loaded .45 and tell them it will just add some brains if they point it at their temple and pull the trigger?

Harder

AOL is a trojan. It comes in looking innocent with 700 Free Hours but infects your computer and renders it unuseable.... ALMOST a virus....

aol.trojan

A virus is anything that replicates itself.... AOL doesn't do that itself.... (that I know of... Anyone have any stories of AOL installing itself across a network???? )

So DOC, close. I got your jist but to be technically correct then you cannot label it as a virus... I'm surprised the DOC wouldn't knoe that!!!!
