Can't please Metallica!

I will just post what I found the most amusing :

"If you download a single, you may ignore the other tracks on the album," he said. "When our artists record a body of work, it's what they deem to be representative of their careers at that time."

Yes we all know that no one only wants a couple songs from the album, they want the whole thing.

hehehe,

Hmmm, who's dictating how it's sold here?

Good thing Metallica's new album sucks so bad I wouldn't pay for even 1 song, let alone the whole album.

Who? The band, that's who. And, I think that's the way it should be. I happen to remember a time when bands made albums as one comprehensive piece of work. If that's the principle they're sticking up for, as they say they are, then that's a good thing. Not to defend their current work as a recent example.

I'd rather the band themselves be in control of these decisions then their marketing agencies. Those are the people you can blame the most for the current state of affairs in popular music these days.....them and the bands that don't seem to object to their loss of control over their own work.

And those rank as some of the best albums ever created.

Like TOOL's Lateralus. Probably the best album that has come out in the last two-three years, looking at the whole album and the way the songs are made, each song being a part of the whole.

There are still albums like that being made. These are the albums I want. I don't want an album full of singles they think will sell.

Placebo's "Sleeping with Ghosts" is the latest example. I love that album. All Placebo albums are like that IMO.

My quote was regarding the distributors (record labels) telling artists (bands etc) how to sell their albums.

Right now, who do you think really makes the decisions regarding albums, and how they are to be sold? and how much? and how much royalties (if any) the band (artist) will receive.

My point being, the singles(cd format) you can purchase are dictated by the labels or managers, not the band.

That is of course IMO.

and I agree there are many albums that are meant to be sold in their entirety (as they have a story or are continuations of previous songs) however I yet to see a Metallica album that is a story line, or a linkin park etc. These songs have no links. Wonder if they feel the album was bad, and the only way to sell the entire thing (and make money) is to not allow single songs to be downloaded.

I completely back Apple on this one. They want to be able to sell singles as well as full albums but Metallica and Linkin Park only want the full thing available. What is their problem? Do they not like people only getting the songs they want? Their scheme to try to dump songs that people don't want is just sick. When a song hits #1, they usualy release a single. If you want just that one song, you go out and buy the single. Now Metallica wants to change the system and make you buy the whole damn thing even if you just want 1 song? That seems rather arrogant of them.

Pink Floyd

Listen to Animals, The Wall, Final Cut, etc...

If anyone hasn't listened to Pink Floyd's "Animals," I strongly suggest doing so.

Pigs on the wing 1
Dogs
Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Sheep
Pigs on the wing 2

The record companies make all the money on the albums. The artists make the money on their live concerts.

I think that they think at least they have your money,so what if you think the CD stinks

I'm not a Metallica fan,and really don't understand how they've been in the buisness this long. But then I remember people bought Micheal Jackson albums
