Company Name

Well I've been working out of the home a bit on people's pc's and I'd to get some business cards printed up. My problem is I can't come up with a good company name to put on the cards. About all I'm doing right now is working with people's home computers and help to setup networks but would like to be able help a few small business' customer's if possible. I'm sure there are several of you out there doing this; are you using a company name or do you just print your own name on the cards in bold letters? I'm not really interested in starting a small company here - I just want to be able to give someone something to remember me so I might be able to drum up some business.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you don't really want a company name, you don't have to have one. On the card, just state your name - what you do, and how to contact you.

How about Scott's Chicken and Computer Repair?

All jokes aside, RituallyPure has a good point. You don't HAVE to have a business name now, I'd just get some cards with my name on it printed up to tide me over until I could think of a catchy name. You are on the right track, you need to come up with something catchy, something people will remember, like it or not.

I work for a plumbing company in the bay area, and with all of the billions of something-rooter company names in the area I work in, my boss did good to come up with the name he did for our company. Sewer Rat Plumbing. Some people like the name, some people hate it, but they all remember it without looking in the phone book.

I made a set of cards with the name "Hey, computer guy". One thing I don't do is put my address on it, just name and number (and email). My friend has a nice business going and named it "House call". When I used to work as a mobile mechanic I was "Wrenches on wheels".

You may want to see which domain names you like that are available. If things develop nicely, you may want a website some day and it would be nice to have a domain name that matches your company name. For instance, I live on Knollcrest Drive, and to my surprise, knollcrest.com was available. I grabbed it in case I ever go into freelance consulting again, I'll use the name Knollcrest Consulting and already own the domain name.

that is a great idea m6.I would never have thought of doing that.

The local store here in town used the initial of each guy involved in starting the buisness. MDC Computers. Ya might use your initials.I think it's a little easier to remember.

Just remember that your customers couldn't care less what your business name is. You'll get your business by doing your job well, and at a respectively competitive price.

since most people are computer illiterate and hate their computers for it, how about "Damn Computer" or "Damn Computer Needs Fixin." It's kinda in tune with beppod's method of remembering the company name.

i am inconsistent with my business name. it really depends on who it is, with small businesses i give them my card with Foot Computers and dress up appropriately. with home users, i tell them i am josh the computer guy and write my name on whatever they have, and tell them to be sure to tell their friends.
