Gangs Of New York

I'm pretty good a following plots but this movie left me trying to figure out what the hell was going on half the time.

My wife asks me questions about movies all the time, but in this one the only one I could ask was the dog. She was of no help!

Interesting movie, but not IMO worth the hype.

As someone here called it... "The funny hat movie"

It was OK but I agree with you.

Watch the special feature on the Gangs of New York DVD from the Discovery Channel. You'll have a better understanding after watching that.

It's on disc 2 "Special Features" : The Real Gangs of New York.

Funny how opinions differ...

I thought Gangs of New York was one of the best pictures I've seen. Very violent, yet very, very good, IMO

*edit - thanks for the heads up on that, mpc. I'll check it out, too.

i read a feature on Martin Scorcese that stated that gangs of new york was shortened down to its present length. The feature did not state any reason for the chopping, but indicated that the chopping was responsible for the so long post production...

the first action scene, or should i say war, was VERY impressive. on the whole, i did feel that the movie was not complete. i wouldn't mind a longer movie, but a martin scorcese movie that's been tampered with does leave me half-fed.
i also did not like the 'romance' bit

Daniel Day Lewis absolutely ROCKS...'If you are Amsterdam, then I'm Noo York'

have to check out the special features
*goes off to video ezy ...*

Just finished watching last night (11:45pm...didn't realize it is almost 3 hours long)
It didn't feel that long though, which must mean I enjoyed it.

I don't understand. What didn't you understand?...The only thing I found slightly confusing, was the 9 billion other gangs and their roles.

The "romance" part, I feel didn't get in the way, you knew it was coming. But, it was kept to a minimum, I felt. Thank god.

Very good rental, borderline "need it in my collection right now"

Basically keeping track of who was who got old. Must have been the beer.

On the second watch with the Mrs. a lot clearer. Although that may have been due to all the replays of scenes to explain to her what was going on.

There were really only about 7-8 main characters to really keep track of.

Only con I found with the movie, was that it was pretty predictable.

i.e. (and forgive me with their names)

I knew;
>his "friend" was gonna rat on him sooner or later.
>He would end up with the chick.
>The guy that picked his fathers pockets in the beginning wasn't being an @#$%&***
>etc.

What I found confusing was not the "main story", but what was going on in New York in the background.
