Bye, bye, overtime pay
Did you know that you may be about to lose your right to overtime pay? The proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act may do just that.
Yes, it's a Union web site. So? The link to the proposed rule change is there; read it for yourself. The title is "Defining and Delimiting the Exemptions for Executive, Administrative, Professional, Outside Sales and Computer Employees; Proposed Rule". ...

Good grief, I was about to take you seriously until I saw that it is from the AFLCIO. Do you have any other sources for this? If so, it might be worth listening to. I can not think of a source with less credibility than the AFLCIO. The AFLCIO is second to only the KKK as being the most objectionable group in the US, and even that is a tight race. The AFLCIO is a documented communist organization and this is openly agreed upon by those on both sides of the political fence. edit:
The above is a mistaken identity on my part. I am speaking out about the wrong organization here and I sincerely apologize to those offended by what I said about the AFLCIO. I have no problem with the AFLCIO, but hear their name thrown around with the organization I meant those words for so often, that in my hurried post, I confused the two organizations. |

| This is absolute slander. There is not a word of truth in it. The AFL/CIO has been anticommunist for seventy years, and its leaders, such as George Meany, have been active in the fight. This is a disgraceful and, I must add, stupid insult.
You don't have to read the Union's pitch, dammit; go to the proposal itself and read it. If you feel too contaminated by contact with a union, here it is: the official Government proposed regulation.
Your rabid reaction has just about cost me any respect I had for you. Comparing the AFL/CIO to the KKK is beneath contempt.

Labor Unions are essential to this country's continued success and is a safety check on abuse of employees by large corporations. To say they are comparable to the KKK is laughable.

Hi dave,
Uh Do you have any proof that they are what you say??
I work for a living. I have no intention of losing the $2,000-4,000 extra I get in O/T!! I will not allow it to go away. The fact my employer can REQUIRE ME TO WORK or fire me makes this TOO IMPORTANT to allow get by.
What I make in overtime is often the difference between just surviving and being able to live well.
Vern

I hear you Vern...I work on AVERAGE of 5 hours of OT a week, some weeks it's much much more...I haven't read the actual proposal, but if I read the first post correctly, I won't have to worry about it anyway being in the construction trade ( that and the mutiny that would arise at my shop if my boss tried to get away with not paying us OT ).

Really, what you are saying is far fetched when you look at what is going on. There is nothing but conjecture on the part of reporters to substantiate your claims. If and when something solid comes out, then you may have a case. But until then, you guys are crucifying someone without any information and are really spinning your tires with no substance behind your complaints.
| I think theo was more than correct when describing your response as rapid. Especially when considering your current platform of shame on you for assuming things.

Hey, consitering that I've lost faith in the REGULAR news lines, I'm not going to trust any old news site. Heck, I give the TechIMO news board an eye of suspicion (no offense Rob).
So Theo, doyou have any other links? I'm not saying your site is uncredible, buit it would be nice to have another article.

I read the statement as including professionals.
My interpretation of " Professional" means you were trained to do the job you're on. I think that means that if your a carpenter, plumber, Ironmonger (ironworker, welder, sheet metal worker, machinist, etc..), bricklayer, your included in the list.

I found plenty of additional info from "legit" websites while using google.
Did you even look at theo's site?... there are a few links there to docs from .gov websites.
