Al-Jazeera cracker charged

This is good, because trying to silence differing opinions, even if you really really don't like them is a big no no, but some people need to learn the hard way.

Shutting down someones site because he disagreed with it is not within his freedoms, what kind of a legal system do you have over there?? Sheesh...

P.s. why did I even bother to reply to your silly post Epidemic?? Beats me..

I'd love to see those emails though. Wonder if he caught any good ones.

The legal system is doing the right thing. Why do you question it?

Epidemic, do you enjoy acting obtuse?

I questioned the legal system only after you claimed he was exercising his ‘freedom’ of speech.

Here let me help you, since you don’t seem to get it:

Your comment to the above crime is this:

Obviously you must be basing your opinion on some kind of facts. You seem to believe there is a law which grants him “…freedom…” (as you so nicely put it) to do this. Please could you post a link to the law that allows people to this?

Thanks.

Not exactly.

I am saying that I appreciate the humor in his harmless prank (harmless in that no one was hurt physically). I do however believe that he needs to be punished. The punishment I would probably levy on him would be financial (having serious sting) if this is his only offence. Jail if he is a chronic cracker.

I do not believe that this as an isolated event proves that he is a threat to society. If this is just a juvenile prank then I would fine him probation him and get on with life.

I do not believe in his right to affect companies or other people as a freedom of speech issue. It is not a protected right for him to interfere with the operation of a company.

But when I went and followed the links I did have me a good laugh so I can see how he might not have felt as if he were doing serious wrong (just mischief). Had he gone into al-jezeerah’s website and placed a worm there which stripped of the credit card numbers of all the employees then I might consider it for more powerful punishment.

That's cyber-war for you. No one says it is right, but both sides are doing it. Well, not as much over in the Arab world as in the US because the Arab people are more limited as to what they can view, but I have seen instances reported. It is nothing to worry about and should be expected, as long as it is not subsidized by the government. And there's nothing going on in this arena that we know of.

This is not a freedom of speech issue. This is a legal/ hacking issue. Too many believe that in the US many disagreements or arguments or crimes can be freedom of speech issues, when they are not. Legally in the US, the only way Freedom of speech is breeched is if the government makes laws against someone's ability to speak.
