Filetopia, an anonymous way to "share" files

Surprisingly, I found out about this P2P software while reading the morning newspaper about the RIAA suing file downloaders. Could this possibly backfire on the RIAA?

Another software is Blubster (starts Monday)

Filetopia is a free communications software that includes: instant messaging, chat, a powerful file sharing system with a search engine, online friends list and message boards.

What is unique to this software is the level of security and privacy that it provides. It uses a choice of strong ciphers and public key techniques for all communications and sophisticated techniques to protect your IP and thus make you truly anonymous and safe from attacks.

This is an interesting piece of software. It would be really impressive if I could get it to work (I can't get it to register my username)

Unless all TRANSFERS go through a server like a middleman between users, it IS NOT annonymous...there's still a connection being made.

A bouncer is a program that "bounces" connections from one machine to another. Similarly to proxies, you always connect to the machine where the bouncer resides and this machine, in turn, connects to the Filetopia server or to any other user's computer. Thus, the Filetopia Server or any other user just "sees" only the IP of the machine where the bouncer is, as if it was your own machine's IP.
http://www.filetopia.org/bouncer.htm

basically they mask your ip address from other users, you are in no way hidden from their servers but you are supposedly hidden from the users you connect with

edit: it says you are hidden for their servers however your connecting to a centralized machine in some way or some machine that is acting as a buffer from their servers so this is not enitrely untraceable its all rather confusing to me tho sounds like a bunch of b/s

Sounds like alot of people are getting set-up. 1st thing is how much ad and spy-ware come loaded into it. And if packets of info are being sent across the web they have to have an address to end up at. The same with the built in messenger. I send you a IM saying "hey man, you got some great music there", you say "thanks man" bam I got ya, your anonymity is ended.

But I thought the site claims not to have any additional programs or spy stuff on it? Am I wrong?

Is it possible the person who wrote the article is being forced to mention FileTopia, as it might be secretly run by the RIAA?

Paranoia is mounting, just as the RIAA intends it too.

Cheers
