Questions about Moderators

I've had these questions in the back of my mind for some time and wanted to ask.

How did you become a moderator?

Did you ask Scott to become a moderator or did he approach you?

What qualities is he looking for?

How much time do you put in reading through all the posts looking for inappropriate behavior?

I have no problem with all the moderators on the board don't take this the wrong way.. I'm not questioning his choices. I find the mods to be very patient and very thorough on decisions.

My curiosity got the better of me.

Jim

Dunno the answer but its not an easy job. Its stressfull. You don't become so popular with the peeps. The hours stink.

So does the pay.

Scott approaches members to be mods. The ones he has chosen have been people who were very active on the forums and had personalities that are level-headed and fair. By far, the "report this post to a moderator" is the greatest tool that helps the mods. The mods do do searches for certain items and look for certain cues, but mass-reading of the forum is not really allowed by most mod's schedules.

Being a mod is easy, but not on big forums like this. You have to be very active and dedicated to run these forums.

One day i got an email from Scott asking me if i would become a moderator .. i thought and then accepted.

As for inappropriate behavior's finding, i depend on your (all members) reports and the local search engine.

I put a lot of my time, not all of it, on moderating and monitoring the site.

Its a volunteer work, so no payment is done.

Ah .. and its no easy

Well, personally, I hope the call never comes to me. I'd hate to say no, and if I said yes, I'd be lousy because I just don't have the time needed to be effective.

I'd like to think that I'm level headed though...

or that my head is level...

Personally I think our mods having been doing a great job i know from time to time I keep them busy moving posts and what not And yes it would not be any easy job having to close threads and tell people what is inappropriate and whats not. I'm not sure I could stay level headed enough to do it.

At times Mod's have reccommended other mods to Scott.
I voted for Kenkun when NDC left And everyone said Yeah! Kenkun!

BTW Scott just tapped my shoulder one day
( I think he asked Fingers what he thought about it. )<<< that was before we met.
