Yesterday, CE and I had to go do a bit of shopping, and along the route there is several conservation areas. We were so lucky, we saw several Canadian Geese familes (including babies!), ducks and babies, a heron, and to our great delight, a full grown deer, a woodchuck, and a rabbit!
I too am living in the inner city. Not a very safe part of it too. the cops are at my apartment block almost constantly nowadays. I miss wild life. When i visit home i'm going to go out to the rain forest on the paluma range. it's only about 30 mins from my old house.
i havn't been to ivy's cottage in ages. They make the best scones and tomato jam. not to mention that while you sit there eating these things in the middle of the rainforest wild birds ussually fly down and sit on your shoulders or on the table.
I know what you mean AC, I used to live in Los Angeles.
Now we have all the the things you mentioned in the yard
It's like a dream come true.
I love it here.
At a job yesterday,a fawn ran(kinda bounced, really)out of the woods and right into the back door of the house I was working on.I went to look at it but it ran back out and disappeared into the woods.
This state is over-run with whitetail deer. They get killed by cars every day I think.I'm guessing that's what happened to the fawn's mother as no one saw her anywhere. Also saw some wild turkeys but that's normal for this development.

Seldom right,but never in doubt...
Sort of mid sized small town set up. One main street, about ten or twelve blocks long. Shoots out two or three blocks off main on both sides. Actually mostly very upscale and truely better businesses.
Residential is all over, with some actually still on main street. The river that runs thru the south end of town is where several herds of deer will come right into town. Seems they like to graze those wonderful lawns of the better off upper middle class.
Its also wonderful to turn a corner and see ten head of deer just turn to look at you. No fear, just sort of "Turn down those lights".
One of the local colleges has a conservation area, and there has been many different kinds of wildlife sited in and around there. Including a fox, deer, and others.
