Animated GIF filesize

What's the best way to keep filesizes down on the images I'm going to use in an animated GIF? I've just been editing/resizing them in Photoshop (I don't think the Image Resize works very well) and saving it as a .jpg...but even when I use the lowest image quality the file is still almost 9kb when it's a 64x48 image

Then what's the best program to animate the images with that keeps the filesize down? I've used Ulead's before, and it didn't seem to do very well

You should be using Image Ready. It's part of the Photoshop installation. It's purpose is to make animated gifs. Bring your images into a Photoshop document and keep them on seperate layers. Do FILE / JUMP TO >> IMAGE READY. There you can make the layers into frames of the animation.

Tweak things like the number of colors used, lossiness, type of color conversion, method of frame disposal, etc. All those can have an effect on final file size.

What's the best file format to use? Jpeg, gif, PNG?

Um, if you're making an animated gif, then it needs to be gif format, right?

Now there is the Outpatient Tutorial I'd like to see ( or get a link to if it's already been done )...

Jumping to IR with a layered image and animating the layers....for some reason, I can't grasp the technique...it eludes me. I just make multiple images and drag them into Animation Studio 3, and then tweak them in IR.
