watermelon punching and hard drive smashing

a week ago was my Com sci exam. After the exam my teacher gave us some broken HD's. so my friends and I went out to the field and this one guy brought a water melon. what you do, is you cut a piece of watermelon and someone holds it and you PUNCH through it. It was quite fun. After that we took the hard drives and tried to smash them. Now I know why they are called hard drives. we threw them down stairs smashed them on the pavement, threw them out car windows. we eventually finished them off with an ax. I kept one to take it apart and look at the inside. It's really neat. A little piece of metal can hold so much knowledge. that was a really fun day. maybe by next year my teacher will have more hard drives that need disposing of.

Hard drives are fun, but REALLY hard to pry open. Smashing it im much the same fashion you mentioned was about the only way for me. But peering into the inside is really interensting.

Oh, and watermelons aren't just for punching. Ever seen 'Mail Call' on the History Channel?

My dad got a hard drive open once. We took the magnets out and stacked them up and slapped them on our rerigerator. They haven't been pried apart or pried off the refrigerator since...

i have about 7 hdd magnets. i take apart every old/broken hdd that i can get. those magnets are awesome! a torx(sp?) driver(the little star shaped screws) really comes in handy for disassembly of hdd's. but smashing them is also a lot of fun. shooting them is cool too. i usually shoot them with my .22 but im gonna try my .308 someday i just had an idea. for july 4th i might take one apart, fill it with gunpowder, drill a small hole, put it back together, put a fuse in the hole, and blow that sucker sky high. ill let yall know how that works out
