Today is George Orwell's 100th birthday

and William Gibson has an Op-Ed piece on him in The New York Times (FRYYY).

Animal Farm is one his finest. We had it as part of Literature in English Class in High School (Grade 9) and it hold true to this day.

Can't celebrate a birthday if you are dead.

Let's call it an anniversary of his birth, shall we?

I agree, Animal Farm was his finest writing, IMO. Didn't really like 1984 that much.

Cheers
Mick

Thanks TBC. Never seen the movie - maybe 'cause I don't watch SBS much, eh?

Cheers

Animal farm was good, but I liked 1984 better. The ending and the small details in the novel make it a truly disturbing experience.

Hey, mickwish, I celebrate Washington's Birthday every year -- or I did until the Feds changed the name to Presidents Day.

I'm pretty sure Washington's dead.
