Well, read the whole article... it makes total sense... however, I don't see why they couldn't fly traditional kites with regular string.

Because, flying traditional kites with regular strings destroys the fun part of kite flying: dog-fights.

Then again, you could just run a peice of wire up there, and electrify and burn your opponants kite.
