Waxing nostalgic

Well, call me a sentimental fool, but I just got my first (PC) CPU and mobo back in trade. I had originally sold them several years ago to some friends as an upgrade, and just took them back as partial payment for the labor to build a new system. Pentium 120 on a Tyan Titan III. Woo hoo! Boy that was a nice box at the time.

BTW, speaking of being a sentimental fool, I still use the original Sony floppy drive from that P-120 system in my current primary box, so technically it's just an upgrade, right?

Unfortunately my first pc gave up the ghost quite some time ago. A Tanden PCX 20 4.77 mHz 8088

Shipped with 256Kb (yes 256Kb) but had been upgraded to 640 by the time I got it. Eventually the floppy controller gave out and by that time no one I knew had a controller for a machine that old .

Served me proudly for many a year, amber screen and all.

Fondly remembered hope she is in a better place now.

Sentimental?

Oddly enough, there's a practical side too. I have a FIC VA-503+ running a AMD K6-2/300 MHz, which I have repeatedly sought to replace and retire. The new ones come and go, but the workhorse inevitably gets dusted off and pressed back into service. Sheeez!

Oh, man....lol, you know you're talking to hard core comp geeks when they start getting all nostalgic about their early computers...

Aw, gee, sweetie, remember the first time I lifted up your back panel and tickled your RAM?

Still have my first several machines - early '80's Tandy Color Computers. 16K ram, and that's after the big upgrade from 4K!!

They're in a basement closet, in their original boxes...

Ah yes, the tape in the middle of my glasses gets all soggy when I think about coming home to find my MITS Altair had been placed in the trash and hauled away (not!).
