[Rant] about Ebay sellers n shipping

Actually its just an in general thing... So I'm looking to buy some NLX computer cases and I found a seller on ebay that has some. But he wants 5.00 for the opening bid and $20 for shipping. Well thats more than I paid for the other one I got and it was an alomst complete box. And it was shipped across country. This place is shipping from san francisco for that price I can almost go pick them up.

So I email the seller and ask about a buying at a set price and possibly getting the shipping lowered and told him I want to get more than one. These things make great dc boxes if you can get the components. So 3 days after the end of the auction I get an email that just says we give a discount on shipping multiple items but it doesn't say how much. And no set buying price.

Well they had like 6-7 of these and didn't sale one. These things have been a little difficult for me to find but for the price I'll just stick with building matx boxes. If it wasn't for that damn high shipping cost for such a little box I'd buy a few. oh and hwen i say little these things are 13"x11"x5" and only weight a few lbs.

I know what you mean. There is a lot of money to be made in shipping and handling.

I hate Ebayers who do that - I have sold a lot of stuff on ebay and never "padded" the shipping/handling costs. Just remember not everyone is like them.

Nah its no worries I know alot of ebayers don't pad prices and I don't mind a little gauging here and there. With ebay becoming more and more comercialized I've been trying to find some good auctions sites but the one I had been using 2computerauction.com has closed shop from what i can tell. to bad too i liked that site

I hear you. Some of these guys are asking 2 bucks to ship a low end trading card. I mean, a 5 dollar card can be sent in a plain envelope with cardboard protecting it for the cost of a stamp. I've seen shipping costs that were just outrageous. Of course, if you bid on it, you can't complain later about the shipping cost.

Of course, I usually bid on items to the point of what I'm willing to pay for the item, and subtract the shipping cost. If I get outbid, then the other person paid too much IMO, there are usually more auctions out there.

Yeah, I always wondered about that. The bidding starts real low, but the S&H usually turns me off. Does eBay not have a "reserve price" on their items? It doesn't seem like a lot of sellers use it.

Ablang,

Unfortunately, ebay charges a lot for the reserve auctions.

Example:

If I start my bidding out at say $1000.00 for a $1300.00 computer(the least I would be willing to sell it for) I would get very few or no bids but it would cost me only $3.80.

If I set up a reserve auction I can start at $1.00 but I will be assured that it wouldnt sell unless the bidders get above my reserve point. - Meaning I will get a lot of bids. BUT it will cost me around $22.00(and up). Whether I sell or not! If I dont sell, say, 10 of the auctions I am out $220.00.

In fact I think that is why so many of the auctions are cancelled in the last few minutes - so the seller wont have to sell and lose money.
