Hands-Free Phone Not Safer for Drivers
According to this study, hands-free devices do not make cell phones safer.
When I heard this, I was so flustered, I dropped my cell phone, knocking the doughnut out of my other hand, which fell into the coffee perched on the laptop sitting in my lap, and my Hummer swerved into the other lane where some jerk had the nerve to honk at me as though it was my fault!!
How dare they tell me how to drive!!

What's scary about your statement osprey is the fact that almost everyone I see driving big vehicles (H2, Expedition, etc.) all are doing something OTHER than driving...
No wonder cops here aren't the kindest people.

I believe there have been other studies also that support the conclusion that the primary problem with cell phones while driving is the distraction factor. Another point was that while in normal conversation with a passenger, the conversation pauses when the driver needs to concentrate: the passenger can also see the truck careening though the intersection, and generally knows enough to leave the driver alone for a while. Remote conversation partners don't see the truck, so keep right on talking. In theory, the driver could tune them out, but doesn't necessarily do so.

Good point Lumeria.
I just saw a news clip the other night on our local fox news channel and i was plumb flabergasted! I mean this moron lady is soooooooo freaking stupid. She got pulled over (and ticketed) for breast feeding while driving and not only that at the same time she was also yaking away on the phone. How much more stupid can a person get? And it gets even more stupid, when she got pulled over she continued to breast feed her newborn AND yak on the phone. The police were so frusterated with her trying to get her off the phone and get the baby into a carseat and she just kept yaking away. What a stupid lady.
She does not deserve to have a drivers liences for that matter.

cell phones are not the issue
the issue is people who cant drive worth crap to begin with
also, how is hands free not safe either? by that logic, neither are passengers
next thing you know, they will have cars with black soundproof barriers for each sitting "compartment", and to make up for the lack of vision, the driver side will be full of monitors, but wait! then they would be considered watching tv, so then they will make everyone drive one person cars, with everything inside invisible, or something else equally logical
ugh

| That's why Jacob, it's different when you're talking to someone and they are there.
People driving and talking are the majority of the ones doing stupid things that scare me or irritate me.
As to the big vehicles, it seems to be women in Expeditions that are the worst. Women in most any car. But I know it's distracting. I can't imagine why others can't figure it out. Or perhaps they have and they are too selfish to do anything about it because it's too convenient for them. I don't understand why some people start calling from a cell phone the minute they get in a car. They could have made all those important calls before leaving office/home.
I mean cell calls are expensive. I make calls before/after getting in a car and generally don't answer any incoming calls whilst driving.
Maybe I'm just a lowly worker and never get them urgent high priority messages. | |
