Geeze Knot! It's a 12x14 room with a cathedral ceiling so I got a couple a tall walls.... ! I'm not gonna wax it!
But it sounds great for my furniture I'm gonna make.

TKOP just the plain ole watco oil finish?

Yep---youve seen it---shellac might be nice as well, Watco or waterbased poly, marine spar varnish, stain etc, skys the limit, nowadays its cheap to try some various finishes on scrap before you commit---remember you will be looking at it on a daily basis...
(guess you know that now, building from scratch)

How bout a pickled finish?
:-)

Actually if I didn't put any of the Amber Shellac in the Clear it would look that way. I sanded every stinking piece we hung.
And now it does have a pickled look. I thought of that.
OK I'll pick up a can of watco oil on the way out to test everything.

Bah, just put up all that wood, rent a sprayer, and spray all that wood.

of course, what do I know, I coat floors-not ceilings and walls

Wish I'd have had my camera last week though....coated the floors for this guy down SW of the Metro....his trophy room. Cathedral ceilings, grand fireplace, biggest gun cabinet I've ever seen ( counted at least 50 shotguns of various vintages ). 1000 Square Feet....all of it-the whole room, solid Walnut. Floors, ceilings, walls, all walnut. Needless to say, it was impressive.

Actually, your comments were appropriate to Lacquer. Both have very similar working characteristics.

Except the part about shaking...I shake the shellac up like crazy, it doesn't matter.

Surreal, I hadn't realized you were talking about an entire PANELED ROOM!!

yeah, hand-rub the entire 27 gajillion square feet, then wax it, too! lol

The thing with Watco oil, or any "Danish" oil finish, is that you have to rub it down, also, and on each coat!

I think if I were in your shoes, I would look at using Catalyzed Lacquer, which you spray on.

Also, since it is Pine, you'll want to use a Sanding Sealer first (also sprayed) since Pine gets "whiskers" on the first coat, no matter HOW well you've sanded...

Anything to get outta all 'at sanding and rubbing and waxing! YIKES!

I guess now that I think of it---I wanted it to look rough, not shiny, not like a piece of furniture---I wanted that funky cabinlike appearance that never would have alot of attention put towards its finish but was functional, an everchanging look that sorta progresses as it ages---I used t+g planking that was actually roof sheathing/underlayment, common and VERY cheap before plywood was the norm---im looking at it now---its a great look...

My coffee table was made from the same material and stained to match the oiled appearance of the walls/ceiling then coated with waterbased semigloss poly to resist liquids---it sucks compared, my walls are ALIVE!

Yep! Nothing makes the wood "pop" like oil...sometimes I'll use Danish oil (just 1 coat) under Polyurethane, to get the effect.

BTW, waterbase Poly may be easier to use, or more environmentally friendly, but....the stuff SUCKS!
