Useless Posts {going on a RANT!!}

Ok I wanna keep this civilized if possible so as not to get it closed and so we all can vent a lil. WTH is going on with us all and the posts and thread crapping. I know I'm guilty as sin did it lasnight in fact. But it seems as tho there are becoming more and more usless posts and thread crapping.

Not pointing fingers or naming names {he who lives in the glass house} but this thread got me looking a little closer. Not just at my own post count and my own posts but some of the others as well. I never really looked at how many posts per day I had until that thread and I know I post quite a bit but I'd say I'm online and on the site more than most. But I have to say my avg is rather low compared to some.

With all the discussion on cutting back the posts in the dc forum and, and the discussion the recent threads box and rather or not the dc forum should be listed there I've been keeping an eye on it and gotta say some of the posts that have been showing up in the recent threads are for worse than anything the dc forum puts out.

well thats my long rant sorry guys. if you post please keep it civil

That's a useful post, right there.

j/k, Richie.

Yeah, if we can cut down on useless posts it makes for a better tech forum. Keep all useless posts in IMO Community, where they belong!

One of the problems is: who defines a useless post? Useless to whom?

Mostly if I see something outrageously nuisance, I'll report it and see if the mods agree. If they don't have a problem with it, no skin offa my nose.

Be interesting to see what replies you get to this. Just stay calm and cool, everyone.

Cheers
Mick

but IMO a thread like this needs to be in the community section

Don't look at "Master DC Spammer" me!!

I never posted in that one!!

I've given up the fight on the DC posting habits, and decided enough! I'll stay on the [FAD] Team TechIMO for now, but with this fight, I'm seeing a lot of my work about to go down the drain.

When I started on the Team (I was 6th member to join), there was very little discussion about the various teams/projects and it was my asking that caused Mick to twist my arm and join the [FAD] Team. I even PM'd a member of another UD Project TechIMO Team, and was ignored. Once I was on the Team, and saw what was happening, I started [FAD] threads to get others to join and then to welcome new members to the Team. I like competition from within, as well as without, and most, if not all the current members seem to be the same. The winner in the end is the "cure" for whatever project we are working on.

Realize, we do have a GREAT TEAM of people who help others with their problems involving DC projects as well as providing help in the other forums, and yes, throwing a little smack once in a while.

We also help in solving problems or improving the program at the [FAD] Forums, and have had several members of [FAD] join TechIMO to have fun, learn, help others. (TT, ya' listening?)

I have seen about 50% of the team come and go, and I wonder why. Then it dawns on me that we do it for what we believe in, the friendships, and the fun. It sure isn't for anything else cuz' we pay for our own systems, electricity, parts, etc., this is all out of our pocket! That means the only thing we get is knowing we are doing something good, making progress, and receiving a pat on the back from fellow team members. (Oh, and Scott W. providing us the use of the Team name, and TIMO Forums. )

Now, I see a couple members from another Project posting that we're ruining the forums for everybody by posting too much, or trying to drive up our post counts. I saw where their project is having problems, and when one of the members of [FAD] (who left [FAD]) and went to their team, and then decided to come back to [FAD], the negative posting started.

Enough rambling!

personally I don't mind the dc threads going to the new thread box I was mainly ranting on the useless replies for some of the threads and some of the threads that really have no need to be in there.

IMO if its such a big issue that dc be excluded then there are alot of other things that need to be as well. And like i said in the other thread if everyone is so worried about post counts then stuff in the traders forum shouldn't count posts in the deals forum shouldn't count.

To me stuff like people bumping a post just to get it out of the zero replies box and not tryinfg to help just bumping it or responding to a question about fans or memory or anyhting with "wow why do you want that" or thats "crap buy something else" or posts about you latest and greatest 3dmark scores or whatever are much worse at cluttering the recent post box. I like bragging as much as the next guy but it doesn't need to be in there.

end rant

edit: wooppsie thanx mickwish

I think a lot of that kind of replying will be found around some magic numbers.like 35-50 and maybe right before 500 also.I think after that most have settled into the "real" reason for TechIMO being here.
I have always tried to avoid a senseless reply in the tech dept. Not saying I haven't don it, I try not to make a habit of it.

This is exactly why I think a few posts in favor of the people participating isn't a bad thing.

When it comes down to it,what is your post count worth anyway?
0,and that's the bottom line.
You will find my posting in the community is prolly twice what my actual post count is, so it's evident why I come here.

Maybe a bragging forum where the posts don't count would help.A place to brag about benchmarks, scores, new computers and such.

I thought that was why they started IMO Community?? So we could brag about our cars, PC's, babies, pets... whatever.

Maybe there needs to be more policing of what's in what forum. Not by the mods only, though - maybe members should report when they think something is inappropriate. Or would that be too much for the mods to handle, I wonder?

Cheers
Mick

Okay,

What bothers me most are posts where ppl don't help to solve a persons problem rather they say something along the lines of "whoa man that sucks" or "hey, I don't know what's going on, but I am sure someone does".

Actually, the other useless posts that bother me are ones in the selling forum. A person is selling a killer laptop/computer/fill in the blank, and ppl come out of the woodwork saying things like. "Wow if I had the money, I would buy it in a minute". I can think of a few users who have gotten high post counts on posts like these.

I think these posts bother me more because I am the "strong silent type." I don't post anywhere but the community unless I can really help with a problem.
