Losing "New Posts"

Sometimes when I wake up and open my browser and head over to these forums, ready to spend a few minute browsing through the active threads I missed...I'll hit View New Posts and it will return maybe 2 or 3, if any.

It usually takes several minutes for the forum to mark those hundreds of threads as read, and stop putting them in the search results...But on these occasions I don't close my browser, or surf away from the site (it's my homepage and the forum is the first page afterwords I come to)...why is it marking all the threads as read?

Not quite sure what you mean, Telexen. Do you read all the new threads in the sercah results individually? Or does it just mark them read after they dsiplay in the search results?

Doesn't do that for me that I can see. What browser is it?

I just come on, View New Posts, and look through everything it returns...opening what excits me, or what I feel I can add to/answer.

It only does it once in a while, usually when I'm waking up and getting on for the first time in hours (there's usually around 200 threads "active")

I'm using Mozilla 1.4RC2 right now..it did it before with Mozilla 1.31

Have you left your browser open those times it happens? Maybe vBulletin resets read posts after a certain timeout or something.

I don't use the View New Posts feature much, so can't really say I have much experience in it's behaviour.

Mayhe somone who uses it a lot can comment.

Interesting. Another potential vBulletin quirk.

Nope..the only times this has happened is when I shut the system down...went to sleep..came back and booted up...opened my browser and used the feature...

I've been on vBulletin forums for a long time though and this has never happened...kinda irritating...I get bored

Not sure how vBulletin stores info on read threads, or whether it queries the browser or cookies.

Maybe RobRich would know? I'll PM him to have a think about it.

Oh, and TechIMO is starting to be less and less like an "ordinary" vBulletin forum due to all the tweaks Scott & Co have added. So anything is possible here.
