home sick and hurt'n

i had surgery on wensday of last week to remove a cyst , pilalnidal, ( i think thats how it is spelled ) removed from my back . it is in the small of my back , right at the top of the plumbers crack . man the day after i was like . wowthis is great i could have gone back to work . well i have since changed that toon man this is killing me . it left me with a hole in my back the size of a golfball and it has to be repacked 2 times a day .if you ever had to have a wound packed then maybe u can understand ... it has to be left open so it can heal from the inside out . so i am hating it they gave me vicodins but those things are candy .... i also have some percoset but that only lasts for about an hour before the pain comes back . so i am just hating it i guess .....

anybody got any horse trankulizers?????

**note i am j/k not asking for drugs **

sorry had to vent .

and how is that spelled rright anyway ? god i am a horrid speller .

OUCH!!!!

Been there man cept mine was right between the old cheeks just above a very sensitive area, excuse the graphic language but I remeber well almost passing out when I used the toilet (#2) after I had that surgery. I almost passed out from the pain. Saw stars, grabbed the tub so I didn't fall off the toilet and bit my tounge to keep consiousness. I feel your pain man, literally. I feel for you, but I hate to tell you I can't offer any advice to help control the pain.

Omardeth, for what it's worth... I had surgery on my finger and a pin put in it. It felt like a watermelon laying on a barbq grill.
(HURT) the stuff you have didn't help, but 800 to 1200 mg of advil did help. go figure..??
I hope it starts feeling better soon

Sorry to hear of your pain. You really should call ur Doc and complain, some of them can be real good at pain management but if you don't squeak you won't get any oil. There are real strong pain meds available that you might be able to use for a short period of time to get you through this tough period of time.
Mixing meds with alcohol is not a good idea, please don't do it. Just pick up the phone and either call your doc or the surgeon either tonite or during office hours tomorrow. I'm just elaborating to try to help you take control of this and get the help you need for this temporary and painful situation ur in. Pain managment should be part of the process and if the vicodan or percoset are not doing the job, the doc needs to know. They have some real strong patches that you may be able to try for 1 day at a time, or your doc can try something else. Good luck to you!!! Hope the pain goes away for you.....

That's a pain, alright, Omardeth!

It's pilonidal cyst, BTW, and the cavities they leave can be a real problem, unless they are heal;ed up correctly.

So the packing is essential, regardless of how much it hurts.

Where are they being repacked? At home, or in the physician's office? If at the office, you may be lucky enough to be able to get nitrous oxide, which can be very good to help relieve pain during the re-packing procedure.

I agree with Sweet - ask the physician for better pain control. And avoid alcohol - it actually slows up the healing process.

Cheers
Mick

WHOA! Wait a minute---is that really true?

I always use alcohol to deal with pain, I hate to use other drugs (like Percodan, Percocet, etc. don't work on me anyways )and stuff like Advil just screws up my innards!

Why would alcohol slow down the healing process? I really want to know!

Thanks~~

Alcohol consumption has a number of physiological effects which can slow wound healing, including excretion of water-soluble vitamins essential for tissue growth.

Certainly the connection is not a great as that of delay in wound healing and tobacco consumption, but most wound care experts would consider excessive alcohol intake as a factor in reduced wound healing.

Moderation is the key, I think. And recognising what your body needs when it is trying to heal tissue.

Cheers
Mick

edit: finally found a reasonable link for info.
