Fake $20

Looks like we got fake $20 bills going around here and I got one. I went to get a new hard drive after working on my bro's friend's car. One of the $20s looked funny (looked like it got washed) and the tech refused to take it. I said no problem I'll take it to the bank and get a new one. The teller tested it and it's a fake. I called my bro and asked him where he got the money. He went to a store and an auto parts place before he got here. No telling which he got it from. I mentioned it to my nephew and he said that a guy in front of him in the line at the restraurant got one too last night. Bummer, I'm out of a 20.

Might not be the right thing to do but keep trying to spend it at other places...any place.

Take it to the police... I think trying to spend it when you know it is bogus constitutes a fairly serious crime.

You said it gomer. My bro's pretty sure it came from the auto parts place. He said they probably knew it and pushed it off on him. He's too casual about handling money. I'm going to office depot and get me one of those pens. By the way, I can't take it to the police because the bank won't give it back to me. I didn't think they would. I hope they catch the passers.

File a police report if the bank kept any record of you turning it in. Maybe the can get reimbursed (but I doubt it). If anything it lets the police know something is up.

Also, give a talk to the manager of the parts store. Maybe get a $10 store credit or something. Be nice about it.

If and when that fails, right a letter to the editor of local paper warning locals to be weary and mention how the parts store handled it.

That's about all you can do.
