Official British Government inquiry finds:

Those trailers weren't mobile bioweapons labs.

So: yet another dud... and a big embarrassment for Tony Blair... but I don't suppose our Glorious Leader is going to stop claiming them as proof of WMDs.

Why has it taken so long for this report to appear?

These constant embarrassments reflect the weight of the case that was made in favour of war. They also reflect the calibre of certain governments and their politicians.

I think I would fall over dead from shock if you ever posted anything other than negative news about the US. In the world, perception is most often reality, and the perception here is that you are not too fond of the United States. And that is a shame if it is true.

When all is said and done, I could really care less if we found WMD because the war was a good thing with superb results. (honestly, I still believe they could be there and am waiting for a reasonable time frame before jumping to conclusions) WMD is the only negative thing that can be said about the war because civilian casualties were extremely light, the atrocities of the Regime were proven (and even expanded upon) and the ties of France, Germany, Russia and China all showed their interests for personal gain as being their reasoning for being against the war. Not to mention the continued ties to terrorism that are found.

Bark all you want about WMD not being there. In time you may be proven right, or you may have the only leg you have to gimp around on knocked out from under you.

The war was just and I know it eats you up inside that everyone knows it. The WMD is the last grain of hope you have to hold onto. That and the ships that right now are absconding with Iraqi oil bound for the US. Oh wait....that never happened either.

As for the trailers, they were as clean as a whistle. They had no trace of anything inside, really. It was like they had never been used. I doubt anyone will know what their real intent was, since they do not appear to have any real use except for small scale biological weapons. I mean, what do you need a mobile trailer for that has a secret compartment for doing biological experiments? Maybe it goes along with those nice UAVs that Saddam had that he used to spray potpourri scented air around to his beloved Iraqi followers to make their day seem extra special. (for those of you that do not get that last bit of sarcasm: Saddam had a fleet of UAVs that had the ability to spray chem/ bio weapons on masses of people)

i'm not surprised, i personally don't think that we will find any WMDs. i agree that the war has caused a lot of good things to happen, but i'm critical of the administration focusing on WMDs as the reason for the war. if they would have just told us the real reasons we were going it wouldn't have mattered, but here we are.

i don't think that theo is trying to expound on why we shouldn't have gone to war, but instead on how we were somewhat decieved by the administration (which i do feal happened). The problem i have is, what if there wasn't a good reason to go except for WMDs, and now we are where we are? there would be a lot of issues.

daveleau, I guess you're not bothered by having your government lie to you, as long as it can produce a plausible post facto excuse for its actions. I remind you that Saddam Hussein's evil was long known to the US, and both Democratic and Republican administrations decided not to go to war for that reason. Reread Bush's State of the Union address (I posted it here) to see what he said were the reasons.

I'm tired of being accused of looking for bad things to say about America. But, unlike some, I'm not about to ignore them, either. If you want to rationalize away everything this administration does, however dishonest, that's your choice. It's not mine.

The reason for going to war was the WMD and the threat they presented to the United States and allies. Nothing has been found so far, so I really don't think it's unreasonable to be skeptical.

Edit: good one, Theo. So true....

Dave,

What are the real reasons why this war was waged?

Didn't they impeach Clinton for lying? About an affair, no less. Hmm. Lied about an affair...lied about another country's arsenal to justify a war.

Yep, the affair issue is definitely worse.
