Dog problems

I line in the city and there is a neghbor that has a dog that is constatly running from house to house. The dog comes over, when there children are with mine, takes the tosys and I have to take them back. The dog scares the youngest child, dog is as big as her(3 yrs.). Last week my oldest daughter said the dog bit her, no noticeable bit marks. I was close to them at the time but looking the othe way. The wife of the neighbors was there and told the dog to go home. When my mom visits she is afraid the dog will knock her over, arthritis in feet and recent surgery on one foot. The final moment was this weekend when my brother was helping me install a patio door. We were in the driveway and I was talking to him while he was sitting in his truck, red Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. THe dog came over and jumped up on the door of the truck. When the dog was told to get down it left 4 scratched about 6 inches long.
Later I talked to the wife and told her what happend. My brother said he would try to buff it out of the finish first before taking it somewhere. Her response was "let me know", no appology or I am sorry just said some things to the dog.
Last night my wife was talking to the Husband and Wife and brought up the situation, husband probably was not told about this and is better at getting things done. The wifes response was "were was the truck parked at".
I have had enogh of this dog. There is a ordinance to prohibit dogs that a loose outside of the owneres tard.
What would you do?

Unless these neighbors are someone you want to avoid offending, I would have a talk with them to discuss your concerns and the remedy you would like them to take.

If that fails, you can always make an anonymous call to the local dog catcher each and every time you see it loose.

Of course there are other alternatives, and I am sure that you have already thought of some of those

I'd call the pound, since he is becoming a nusince and not only that you don't know if the dog has updated rabies shots. If its picked up by the pound it will force them to update the rabies shot. Last thing you need is the dog bitting people.

I'd make the neighbors pay for refinshing the car regardless if im they are friendly with me or not. a good neighbor would offer to pay for the damages.

Heavy rock. Short rope. Deep pond.

You get the idea.

What are your suggestions? If you think they may be offensive PM me.
I tried to give the dog to someone at work, they didn'w want it.
That was my nice thought
I do not care if they are mad at me, but it is is easier if there are no tensions.

Easiest method IMO is the local animal control. they will make sure they keep him leashed or kenneled or in a fenced yard, if the dog repeatedly gets called in, they will take it away from the home.

I called the animal control for our area, here are the options.
If the city comes out the citation is $35.00.
If animcal contorl comes the citation is $65.00 plus check for rabies.
Also a person can make a anonymous call and animal control will pay a visit to the owners, no citation issued.
They will also increase patrols in the area, asked to do this. I will have a talk with the husband, don't think he knows what goes on while he is away.

I'd go with the 3rd option for starters. This way the folks who own the dog will get the message that someone doesn't like thier dog running around. if that fails then go for the second option. hit them where it hurts the most.

Double 00 Buck shot or an antifreeze cocktail.

Not really. It's not the poor dog's fault and I really wouldn't want ot hurt ANY animal. Double 00 buck shot or antifreeze cocktail for the owners !!!!! Now that's better.

Now I won't be drastic and go with pickel's ideas but will agree with Neo.
The pound or dog catcher. If the dog does end up biting someone or does leave marks, I would simply use a can of mace straight to the eyes.
